Three Titans Place At Spartan Mat Classic

MANCHESTER, Ind.- UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling finished 11th at the Spartan Mat Classic on Saturday (Jan. 13) with eight wrestlers competing. 

Michael Loger (So. • Andover, Minn.) posted a 3-2 record in the 184-pound class and grabbed a sixth place finish. After starting the first round with a bye, he defeated Zach Wagner of Wabash College (Ind.) in the following round by a 10-6 decision. He moved on to face Owen Butler of University of Indianapolis where he lost by a 15-0 technical fall to head to the consolation bracket. Loger then pinned Gunner Connaughton of Marian University in 26 seconds before losing to Michael Durham by a 7-2 decision to head to the consolation bracket. He defeated Cornerstone University's (Mich.) Brady Heckathorn in a 10-6 decision to finish sixth.

Matt Hanke (Sr. • Theresa) went 3-2 in the 197-pound matches, receiving a bye in the first round then going on to win his first match by pinning Bryce Taberski of Marian in 1:23. He was then defeated by Luke Hopkins of Baldwin Wallace by a 10-9 decision. He moved on to pin Hadyn Ball of Wabash in 2:06 and win by 8-0 major decision against Mason Knight of Indiana Tech before being pinned by Neil Johnson of Wabash in the sixth-place bout. 

In the 125-pound contest, JP Culver (Fr. • Vicksburg, Mich.) started competition with two byes before pinning George Wilmer of Cornerstone in 1:03. In the third round, Culver was defeated by a 20-3 technical fall to Jacob Decatur of Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio). He went on win against Jacob Lentz of Wabash (18-0 technical fall) before being pinned by Tyler Hisey (unattached). He wrestled Ty Haskins from Marian University (Ind.) for seventh place but lost by technical fall in a score of 25-7.

In the 141-pound tilt, Andrew Schad (So. • Kiel) received a bye to open the match before he was pinned by Keegan McMahon of Baldwin Wallace. He moved on to pin Josh Gibson of Heidelberg University (Ohio) in 1:21 before being pinned by Ian Boden of Cornerstone in the following round. 

Ira Schlottke (Fr. • Grafton) and Joey Spizzirri (So. • Palatine, Ill.) were both pinned in their first round of competitions in the 149-and 165-pound bouts. Schlottke moved on to lose by technical fall to Luke Jaworski of Cornerstone and Spizzirri went on to defeat Ty Wunderl of Huntingdon College (Ala.) by a 13-3 major decision and Joshua Knuckle of Manchester University (Ind.) by forfeit. He then lost by technical fall to Manchester's James Bettcher. 

Three Titans competed in the 285-pound contests. Brodie Driessen (Fr. • West Allis) went 0-2, being pinned in the first round by Camron Carreras of Baldwin Wallace and Matt Johnson of Alma College (Mich.) in the second. Camden Harms (Fr. • Mahomet, Ill.) defeated Christian Curry of Huntingdon in a 1-0 decision and was defeated by Marques Henry of Ohio Wesleyan University in the next round. He moved on to be pinned by Brody Miskimon of Alma College. 

Guyon Cyprian, also in the 285-pound class, won by a 28-second pin against Samuel Brown of Huntingdon, but was then defeated by Joe Shoup of Ohio Wesleyan in the next round. In the consolation bracket, he beat Marian's Jaylin Harris 4-0 and ended his day on a tie breaker-1 6-2 matchup against Steven Flagg from Huntingdon.

The Titans return to action on Thursday (Jan. 18) for an away dual match against UW-Platteville. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
