Wrestling Hosts Annual Black & Gold Classic

OSHKOSH, Wis- The UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling team hosted its annual Black & Gold Classic on Thursday night (Oct. 26) at the Kolf Sports Center.

The Gold Team beat the Black Team 53-15.

Wrestling for the Black Team in the opening match, Camden Harms (Fr. • Mahomet, Ill.) scored six team points with a fall in 2:48 over the Gold Team's Brodie Driessen (Fr. • West Allis) in the first 285-pound match.

Joseph Mendoza (So. • Racine) brought Gold within a point on an 18-1 technical fall in his 125-pound tilt with JP Culver (Fr. • Vicksburg, Mich.).

The Gold Team took the lead in the third match during a 141-pound matchup between Colby McHugh (So. • Freedom) and Andrew Schad (So. • Kiel). McHugh earned the win for Gold with a 9-7 decision.

Gold won the next four matches, extending their lead to 25-6 on a Bryce Jankowski (Jr. • Milwaukee) fall in 57 seconds at 149 pounds, a 17-2 Cody Welker (Sr. • Burlington) technical fall in 1:53 at 157 pounds, a 4-2 decision won by Adib Korabi (Sr. • Carlstadt, N.J.) at 74 pounds and a 12-7 decision for Landon Saglin (Fr. • Minocqua) at 184 pounds.

Harms again won by fall in the second 285-pound bout, this time in one minute flat. The pin brought the score to 12-25.

McHugh started another four-match winning streak for Gold, pinning Culver in 3:00 in the only 133-pound match of the night.

Mendoza, Welker and Jankowski all won their second matches by fall in 1:41, 1:14 and 32 seconds, respectively.

Michael Loger (So. • Andover, Minn.) won the Black Team's third match of the classic in the first 184-pound bout with a 4-2 decision over Saglin.

Korabi finished the meet up with the eighth fall of the night. He pinned Tyler Blanchard (So. • Coleman) in 1:33 at 184 pounds.

The Titans will open the 2023-24 season at the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Open next Saturday (Nov. 4). The first match is scheduled for 9 a.m.
