Four Titans Advance to Day Two of NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Regionals

MEQUON, Wis.—At day one of the Upper Midwest Regionals, the UW-Oshkosh Titans are advancing four to the second day of competition.  The Titans are in a tie for ninth place out of 18 teams competing at the regional.

Luc Valdez (125) won by a 3-1 decision over Devin Gore of Concordia University-Wisconsin. Valdez posted a 4-1 decision over Carter Schulz of UW-Eau Claire.

Beau Yineman (197) won by fall over Evan Danowski of UW-Whitewater (Fall 2:53). Yineman recorded a win by fall over Peyton Smith of Concordia University-Wisconsin (Fall 3:19) to advance to the semifinals.

Cody Welker (157) won by a fall over Brendan Connolly of Chicago (Fall 1:53). Welker would drop his quarterfinal match to Aiden Brosinski of UW-Platteville by a fall (2:46). In the second consolation round, Welker won by fall over Logan Thorsten of St. John's University (Fall 1:33) to advance to the next round.

Denis Murphy (133) won by a 7-0 decision over Tyler Evitts of Aurora in the opening round. Murphy dropped the quarterfinal match to Zach Thompson of UW-Platteville in a major decision (8-0). In the second consolation round, Murphy won by a 7-4 decision over Justin Hames of Elmhurst College.

Elijah Sanchez (141), Luke Moczynski (149), Nate Stokhaug (165), Michael Loger (174), and Guyon Cyprian Jr. (285) all competed for the Titans on day one and did not advance.

Thirty wrestlers, the top-three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes at the Upper Midwest Regional, advance to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for March 10-11 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia.
