Six Titans Land on Podium at Pat Flanagan Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa—Six Titans finished in the top-8 as the UW-Oshkosh Titans competed at the Pat "Flash" Flanagan Open, hosted by Loras College.

Luc Valdez finished in second in the 125 class and opened with a bye in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Valdez won by decision over Charles Matthews of Iowa 5-0. Valdez won by medical forfeit over Justin Murray of Loras in the semifinal round. Valdez faced off against Trever Anderson of UNI, falling in a 6-0 decision.

In the 197 match, Beau Yineman took second. Yineman defeated Marquese Carter of Iowa Wesleyan by fall (1:59) in the quarterfinal match before defeating UW-Parkside's Joseph Swanson in a 7-0 decision. Yineman fell in the final match of the day to South Dakota State's Cody Donnelly. Donnelly won by fall (1:30) over Yineman.

At 133, Denis Murphy finished in fourth place. Murphy won by a fall (2:42) over Iowa Wesleyan's Travis Hodges and Kolby Heinz of Loras (Fall 5:00) in the opening two rounds. Drake Ayala of Iowa defeated Murphy by a tech fall (21-6) in the semifinal round. In the consolation semifinals, Murphy won by injury default of Justin Bradford (Indian Hill). In the third place match, Murphy fell by major decision to Wisconsin's Dylan Coy (MD 11-0).

Nate Stokhaug found the podium in the 165 weight class. Stokhaug received a bye in the first round before falling to Loras's Logan Adamson in a 4-3 decision in the second round. Stokhaug posted three consecutive victories to reach the consolation semifinals. Stokhaug fell to Northern Illinois' Tommy Bennett in the consolation semifinals in a 14-9 decision.

In the 174 class, Michael Loger finished in sixth place for the Titans. Loger fell in the opening round by a fall to Graham Calhoun (Fall 1:09). Logan won by fall (2:16) over Colbi Girouz (Indian Hills)  and posted a win by fall (0:25) over Austin Totty of Central. Loger posted an 11-6 decision over Steven Dahl and a 13-9 decision over Landon Kirby of Central. In the fifth place match, Loger fell by major decision to Upper Iowa's Ryan Steffen.

Guyon Cyprian Jr. finished in eighth place in the heavyweight class and received an opening round bye. Cyprian won by fall (2:18) over Hayden Heame (Central) before dropping the quarterfinal match to Jason Guadarrama (UW-Parkside) by a fall (1:30). Cyprian posted a 9-2 decision over Indian Hills in the fourth round. Iowa's Easton Fleshman won by a 2-0 decision over Cyprian in the consolation semifinal.
