Titans Register Four Convincing Wins At Kalahari Duals

Nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh recorded 19 pins in winning all four of its matches with little trouble at the Kalahari Duals Saturday (Dec. 18) in Sandusky, Ohio.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, outscored its opponents, 181-23, with victories of 45-5 over Trine University (Ind.), 50-6 over Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio), 42-9 over Heidelberg University (Ohio) and 44-3 over 11th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio).

UW-Oshkosh's pin count featured four from both Jordan Lemcke and Beau Yineman; two apiece from Tyler Blanchard, AJ Schoenfuss, Nate Stokhaug and Luc Valdez; and one each from Patrick Curran, Jake Stritesky and Cody Welker.

Lemcke, ranked fourth nationally at 285 pounds, remained unbeaten in 15 matches (9 pins) this season by sticking Jacob Jackson of Trine University to the mat in 1:39, Bradley Smith of Mount St. Joseph University in 2:18, Da'veon Parker of Heidelberg University in 5:39 and Andrew Levins of Baldwin Wallace University in 1:54.

Yineman, ranked second in the country at 197 pounds, improved his season record to 20-1 (11 pins) and career record to 59-7 (20 pins) by gluing Ryan Mahoney of Trine University to the surface in 1:37, Cameron Sauerwein of Mount St. Joseph University in 3:49, Jarlin Curtis of Heidelberg University in 2:52 and Mitch Sanders of Baldwin Wallace University in 1:56.

Blanchard (3-4, 3 pins) ended his 174-pound bouts with pins in 2:54 over Montavious Yearby of Heidelberg University and 53 seconds over Carter Lloyd of Baldwin Wallace University while Schoenfuss (11-7, 5 pins) concluded his 141-pound contests with pins in 2:52 over Nathan Demangeont of Heidelberg University and 1:33 over Conner Deboe of Baldwin Wallace University.  

Stokhaug (14-7, 6 pins) finished his 157-pound competitions with pins in 4:16 over Carson Pottenger of Heidelberg University and 4:02 over Tyler Witreich of Baldwin Wallace University while Valdez (17-3, 6 pins) wrapped up his 125-pound challenges with pins in 2:33 over Bryce Timm of Trine University and 2:37 over Jorden Zigo of Mount St. Joseph University.

Curran (13-5, 6 pins) and Stritesky (13-4, 5 pins) both stuck their Mount St. Joseph University opponents to the mat. Curran pinned Kaleb Gelter in 2:58 at 184 pounds while Stritesky pinned Jake Cotsonas in 2:04 at 133. Welker (8-6, 2 pins) glued Ethan Nash of Trine University to the surface in 2:19 at 165 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh (11-1) won the first six bouts and built a 30-0 lead over Trine University (1-5). In addition to the pins from Lemcke, Valdez, Welker and Yineman the Titans received victories on the mat from Curran, Schoenfuss and Eli Mondrella at 149 pounds. Titans Stokhaug and Denis Murphy at 133 pounds won by forfeits.

UW-Oshkosh also won the first six bouts against Mount St. Joseph University (2-4). The Titans jumped to a 33-0 lead and finished the match with nine victories. Curran, Lemcke, Stritesky, Valdez and Yineman had pins while Matt Joyce posted a victory on the mat at 141 pounds. Titans Brandon Lenczner at 149 pounds, Stokhaug and Welker each won on a forfeit.

The Titans won five of the last six bouts to pull away from Heidelberg University (2-3). UW-Oshkosh led 15-6 before outscoring the Student Princes, 27-3, the rest of the match. Murphy, Valdez and Welker each won on the mat to support the pins earned by Blanchard, Lemcke, Schoenfuss, Stokhaug and Yineman.

UW-Oshkosh won nine of 10 bouts against nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University (5-1). The Titans scored the final 30 points of the match. UW-Oshkosh collected pins from Blanchard, Lemcke, Schoenfuss, Stokhaug and Yineman and victories on the mat from Curran, Stritesky, Valdez and Welker.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it wrestles at the Manchester University (Ind.) Spartan Classic on Jan. 15.
