13th-Ranked Titans Rout 12th-Ranked Maroons

Five Titans recorded pins as UW-Oshkosh trounced University of Chicago, 37-12, in a wrestling match involving nationally ranked programs on Thursday (Dec. 16) in Chicago, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, collected pins from Luc Valdez at 125 pounds, AJ Schoenfuss at 141, Patrick Curran at 184, Beau Yineman at 197 and Jordan Lemcke at 285 to improve its dual record to 7-1 on the season.

The Titans also received wins from Denis Murphy at 133 pounds and Muzi Sitshela at 165.

Valdez gave UW-Oshkosh the lead for good by sticking Jake Hamulak to the mat in 4:56 during the competition's opening bout.

The Titans extended their advantage over the Maroons (0-1) to 16-0 on Murphy's 15-6 victory over Dylan Clifford and Schoenfuss' pin of Vincent Menozzi in 1:10. 

University of Chicago, ranked 12th nationally, added nine points to its team score in the next two bouts as Ryan Fleck defeated Brandon Lenczner, 17-1, at 149 pounds while Darian Estevez ousted Nate Stokhaug, 14-4, at 157.

The teams swapped victories in the following two contests as UW-Oshkosh's Sitshela edged Wyatt Haynes, 8-7, while University of Chicago's Tyler Joseph beat Bryant Schaaf, 7-0.

UW-Oshkosh took a 19-12 lead into the final three bouts and pulled away from the Maroons on the pins from Curran, Yineman and Lemcke. Curran stuck Wyatt Hare to the mat in 3:39 before Yineman glued Danny Lingen to the surface in 3:43. The match ended with Lemcke's pin of Cole Fibranz in 5:09.

Yineman (16-1, 8 pins) entered the day ranked second nationally in his weight class while Lemcke (11-0, 6 pins) was fourth in his division and Curran (10-4, 5 pins) 15th in his category.

UW-Oshkosh returns to the mat Saturday (Dec. 18) at the Kalahari Duals in Sandusky, Ohio. The Titans are scheduled to wrestle Trine University (Ind.), Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio), Heidelberg University (Ohio) and 11th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio).
