Titans Go 1-2 At Gator “Boots” Duals

The UW-Oshkosh wrestling team compiled a 1-2 record at the Gator "Boots" Duals held Saturday (Dec. 16) at McGavock High School in Nashville, Tenn.

UW-Oshkosh defeated Thomas More College (Ky.), 32-9, in its opening match before suffering setbacks of 26-19 to Heidelberg University (Ohio) and 31-9 to Luther College (Iowa).

Wesam Alabed, Mark Choinski and Colten Cashmore led UW-Oshkosh by earning wins in all three of their contests.

UW-Oshkosh (1-5) owned eight of the 10 winners in its victory over Thomas More College (7-2).

Following a forfeit at 125 pounds, Wesam Alabed cut UW-Oshkosh's deficit to 6-4 with his 19-8 win over Kenny Byers at 133 pounds.

Thomas More College then extended its lead to 9-4 on Parker Buschelman's 4-2 sudden victory over the Titans' Dellas Vandenberg.

UW-Oshkosh dominated the match the rest of way by winning the final seven contests, including Husam Alabed's pin of Andrew Taylor in 4:52 at 174 pounds.

The Titans sliced their deficit to 9-8 on Corey Knudsen's 14-3 win over Andrew Tevis at 149 pounds. UW-Oshkosh then took the lead for good at 11-9 on Choinski's 7-2 victory over Jimmy Traub at 157 pounds.

Other winners for the Titans against the Saints were Oscar Ramos at 165 pounds, Cashmore at 184, Jordan Lemcke at 197 and Michael Dunlap at 285.

Ramos defeated Gunnar Dawson, 18-1, while Cashmore ousted Avery Jones, 8-1, and Lemcke edged James Caniglia, 3-0. Dunlap closed the contest with his 14-2 win over Ahmad Hameidan.

UW-Oshkosh won four contests during its loss to Heidelberg University, including pins by Wesam Alabed at 133 pounds and Choinski at 157.

Wesam Alabed created a 6-6 tie when he stuck Richard Bogetich of the Student Princes to the mat in 5:00. Choinski later cut UW-Oshkosh's deficit to 15-12 with his pin of Noah Messerall in 6:04.

Other victors for UW-Oshkosh against Heidelberg University (4-3) were Ramos at 165 pounds and Cashmore at 184. Ramos gave the Titans a 16-15 lead with his 16-4 win over Logan Broske while Cashmore gave UW-Oshkosh a 19-18 advantage with his 6-3 victory over Patrick Brown.

Heidelberg University then took the lead for good at 23-19 following Tyler Hammack's 18-1 decision over Lemcke at 197 pounds. The Student Princes closed out the match with Christian Climer's 12-7 win over Dunlap at 285 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh had three winning performances during its loss to Luther College (3-2). The Titans received wins from Wesam Alabed at 133 pounds, Choinski at 157 and Cashmore at 184.

After the Norse extended their lead to 12-3, UW-Oshkosh collected a 5-1 win from Choinski over Izzac Suarez, 5-1

Luther College maintained its lead and pulled in front by an 24-6 score after pins by Billy Poray at 165 pounds and Jamal Vaughns at 174. Poray stuck Ramos to the mat in 2:19 while Vaughns stuck Husam Alabed to the surface in 1:29.

Cashmore earned three points for the Titans and made the score 21-9 with his 4-2 result over Ira Kuehn.

Luther College then ended the match with wins by Hunter Weaver at 197 pounds and Keenan Feldpausch at 285.

The Titans are idle until Jan. 6 when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa, for the University of Dubuque Duals.
