Reilly's Sixth-Place Finish Leads Titans At Don Parker Open

Patrick Reilly earned sixth place in the 184-pound weight class as the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team competed at the Don Parker Open on Saturday (Feb. 4) in Eau Claire.

Reilly finished the tournament with a 2-3 record after being pinned in 1:12 by North Central College's (Ill.) Evan Stingily during his fifth-place match. Reilly had two pins himself as he stuck Dustin Lee of Rochester Community & Technical College (Minn.) to the mat in 4:31 and Jonathan Zarnke of Augsburg College (Minn.) to the surface in 4:34.

Reilly also suffered defeats of 16-6 to University of Minnesota's Dylan Anderson and 4-3 to Upper Iowa University's Jamie Gehling.

UW-Oshkosh had three of the tournament's 10 consolation champions in Josh Becker at 157 pounds, Colten Cashmore at 174 and Elijah Burdick at 285.

Becker posted a 5-1 record and captured his consolation title with an 8-7 victory over Luther College's (Iowa) Izzac Suarez. Becker's win over Suarez followed victories of 5-4 over Luther College's Chris Barrett, 5-2 over Upper Iowa University's Mac Spotts and 10-1 over Saint John's University's (Minn.) Dan Gainer.

Becker won his first match with a pin of North Central College's Thomas Morales in 2:37. He then dropped to the consolation bracket with a 6-3 loss to Augsburg College's Bryce Zdanovec.

Cashmore picked upped wins in his last five matches and secured the consolation title with a 6-2 victory over UW-Eau Claire's Tyler Vogt.

Cashmore lost a 5-3 decision to Concordia College's (Minn.) Jake Johnson in his opening bout before winning on a disqualification to UW-Whitewater's Sam Ryner. Cashmore then sandwiched a pin of Saint John's University's Mike Wagner in 3:49 with victories of 17-2 over Concordia College's Joseph Grove and 5-1 over Luther College's Billy Poray.

Burdick won his last four contests, including a pin of UW-Whitewater's Austin Parks in 4:01 during his consolation title victory. Burdick also enclosed a 6-2 win over St. Olaf College's (Minn.) Troy Beaman with pins of Winona State University (Minn.) Wrestling Club's Nathan Berg in 3:29 and Augsburg College's Ethan Hofacker in 4:13.

Burdick's lone defeat was a 16-0 decision to unattached Dustin Wozniak in his opening bout.

Other UW-Oshkosh participants marking multiple wins during the tournament were Nate Arquinego (2-2 record) at 149 pounds and AJ Stengel (2-2) at 174. Arquinego pinned North Central College's Kyle Meyers in 3:41 and UW-Eau Claire's Hunter Deleon in 2:10 for his two victories.

The Titans were also represented at the Don Parker Open by Jonathan Flores (0-2) and Bennett Temple (0-2) at 133 pounds, Zach Frassetto (0-1) and Aristide Serrano (1-2) at 165, Husam Alabed (1-2) at 184, John DePersia (1-2) at 197 and Michael Dunlap (1-2) at 285.

UW-Oshkosh will wrestle at the WIAC Championship on Friday (Feb. 10) in Platteville. The Titans placed sixth at last year's event with 49.5 points.
