Titans Gain Experience At Don Parker Open

Ethan Fredericks and Hunter Mulock recorded pins to highlight UW-Oshkosh's entries at the Don Parker Wrestling Open on Saturday (Feb. 6) in Eau Claire.

No team scores were kept at the event that featured wrestlers from the NCAA Division II and Division III as well as the National Junior College Athletic Association and unattached competitors.

Fredericks, competing at 165 pounds, pinned Chris Barrett from Luther College (Iowa) in 1:38 during his opening match before falling to Alex Anaya from NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) in 39 seconds and to Dwayne Williams from Augsburg College (Minn.) in 3:54.

Mulock lost a 5-2 decision to Augburg College's Alex Wilson in their opening-round bout at 149 pounds, but Mulock bounced back to pin TreJon House from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2:09 during the second consolation round. After receiving a bye, Mulock's tournament ended with a 9-7 sudden-victory by Gilbert Valadez from Luther College in the fourth consolation round.

Also registering one win and two losses for the Titans were Craig Mason at 141 pounds, Nick Monty at 165 and Patrick Reilly at 184.

Mason won his first match, 14-0, over UW-La Crosse's Louis Gnida before suffering losses to Luther College's Brian Burchett by a 3-0 score in the second round and to Adam Presler from Concordia College (Minn.) on a pin in 3:37 during the second consolation round.

Monty dropped his first match, 8-2, to Clark Doyle from UW-La Crosse, but downed Parker Jackson from Concordia University Wisconsin, 8-4, in the second consolation round. Augsburg College's Brady McFarland ousted Monty from the tournament with a pin in 6:53 during the third consolation round.

Reilly won his second match, 5-3, over Cole Durbin from Augsburg College. James Lehman won by pin (4:22) over Reilly in the opening match, and Cory Flaata from NCAA Division II St. Cloud State University (Minn.) ended Reilly's tournament run with a 10-0 decision in the third consolation round.

Finishing winless in two matches for UW-Oshkosh were Corey Knudsen at 149 pounds, Lance Arendt at 165, Parker Knueppel and Fernando Sanchez at 174, and Ryan Meyer at 197.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the WIAC Championship next Sunday (Feb. 14) in Stevens Point.
