Titans Go 1-2 At University Of Chicago Duals

Mark Choinski was victorious in all three bouts and Patrick Reilly won both of his matches as the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team went 1-2 at the University of Chicago Duals on Saturday (Jan. 2) in Chicago, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh (3-5) defeated Trine University (Ind.), 30-22, and lost by scores of 31-13 to Wabash College (Ind.) and 30-6 to the University of Dubuque (Iowa). Wabash College is ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Choinski, competing at 149 pounds, recorded a pin in 3:32 over Trine University's Zach Krumlauf. He also registered wins of 9-0 against Devin Broukal of Wabash College and 8-7 against Adrian Collier of the University of Dubuque.

Reilly, wrestling at 165 pounds, pinned Brandon Gray of Trine University in 6:35 and scored a 2-0 decision over Jonathan Denikas of the University of Dubuque.

UW-Oshkosh's Elijah Burdick produced a 2-1 record in the 285-pound weight class. He earned decisions of 4-0 over Wabash College's Jake Barclay and 9-2 over Trine University's Joe Stasiak before suffering a 3-1 setback to Sawyer McCaffrey from the University of Dubuque.

Nathan Zemke won his only bout of the day at 157 pounds for the Titans, pinning Trine University's Brandon Gay in 6:35, while 157-pounder Nate Arquinego and Levi Smith, wrestling in the 141-pound division, both split a pair of matches.

Arquinego pinned Kellen VanCamp from Wabash College at the 2:25 mark and lost a 6-5 decision to University of Dubuque's Kody Krenz. Smith defeated Jeffrey Helm of Trine University before losing to Jeremy Melendez of the University of Dubuque by a 7-2 count.

John DePersia also recorded a victory for UW-Oshkosh at 184 pounds, pinning Trine University's Kerry Raab in 5:37. DePersia suffered setbacks in his other two matches, falling in 2:05 to Wabash College's Riley Lefever and losing a 12-3 decision to Ethan Soderstrom from the University of Dubuque.

Also competing for the Titans were Jonathan Flores (0-3 record) at 125 pounds, Craig Mason (0-1) at 141 pounds, Nick Monty (0-1) at 165 pounds, Julius Smith (0-3) at 174 pounds, Dellas Vandenberg (0-3) at 133 pounds and Chris Yaros (0-3) at 197 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh faces UW-Platteville on Friday (Jan. 8) in Platteville.
