Eagles Pull Away From Titans With Match-Ending Run

UW-La Crosse closed the match with six straight victories to defeat the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team, 37-6, on Friday (Jan. 15) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, took a 9-0 lead on Nelson Baker's forfeit victory at 125 pounds and Quinn Miracle's 6-4 decision over Dellas Vandenberg at 133.

UW-Oshkosh (3-8, 0-4 WIAC) received wins from Levi Smith at 141 pounds and Mark Choinski at 149 to cut its deficit to 9-6. Smith defeated Garrett Dziedzic, 8-1, while Choinski ousted Qarin Johnnic, 7-0. Choinski raised his season record to 14-5 with the victory.

The Eagles (10-3, 2-0 WIAC) regained control of the match with convincing wins by Michael Murnane at 157 pounds and Andrew Dayland at 165. Murnane won by a 12-4 score over Nate Arquinego and Dayland by a 21-8 result over Lance Arendt.

UW-La Crosse then extended its lead to 25-6 with Tyler Schneider's 9-4 victory over Parker Knueppel at 174 pounds and Alex Friedman's 17-2 triumph over John DePersia at 184.

The Eagles scored their final 12 points on pins by Zach Tooley at 197 pounds and Clay Broze at 285. Tooley stuck Chris Yaros to the mat in 1:52 while Broze glued Elijah Burdick to the surface in 2:23.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its string of four consecutive WIAC road matches at UW-Eau Claire on Tuesday (Jan. 19).
