Early Pins Ignite Pointers To Win Over Titans

UW-Stevens Point opened the match with three straight pins and coasted to a 38-9 victory over the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team on Tuesday (Nov. 17) in Kolf Sports Center.

Logan Hermsen, Dan Squires and Cody Nielsen all recorded pins in less than five minutes to provide the Pointers with an early 18-0 lead.

Hermsen needed just 1:36 to pin UW-Oshkosh's Patrick Reilly in the opening contest at 165 pounds, while Squires stuck Julius Smith to the mat in 3:40 at 174. Nielsen followed with a pin of the Titans' John DePersia in 4:46 at 184 pounds

UW-Stevens Point (1-0, 1-0 WIAC) extended its lead to 26-0 on victories by Bo Seibel at 197 pounds and Donny Ralston at 285. Seibel defeated Chris Yaros, 16-1, while Ralston ousted Elijah Burdick, 4-0.

UW-Oshkosh (1-1, 0-1 WIAC) won consecutive bouts to cut its deficit to 26-9.

Jonathan Flores got the Titans going with his pin of Moziah Clark in 4:49 at 125 pounds before Dellas Vandenberg edged Michael Bannach by a 6-4 score at 133.

The Pointers answered back with a pair of convincing victories to make the score 35-9. Jared Kust defeated Titans' Austin Loos, 18-2, at 141 pounds before David Granatelli conquered Craig Mason, 11-1, at 149.

UW-Stevens Point closed the match with Anthony Friese's 9-5 win over Mark Choinski at 157 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it wrestles UW-Parkside in Kolf Sports Center on Dec. 3.
