Titans Earn Five Top-Five Performances At Dan Gable Open

Levi Smith's runner-up finish in the 141-pound weight class led the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team's individual results at the 13th annual Dan Gable Open held Saturday (Nov. 14) in Kolf Sports Center.

After receiving a bye in the six-wrestler field, Smith earned a place in the final with his 2-0 decision over Cameron Nolan of NAIA member University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Tres Leon of the University of Cumberlands then defeated Smith, 14-6, in the championship bout.

UW-Oshkosh's Julius Smith placed third with a 4-1 record in the 174-pound division. He lost a narrow 6-4 decision to Eddie Bernal of the University of the Cumberlands before rebounding to pin teammate Chris Alfonso (4:00) and unattached Jeff Becker (0:58) in consecutive bouts.

Smith then marked a 12-2 victory over Tamchybai Turusbekov of Harper College (Ill.) to reach the third-place match, where he avenged his loss to Bernal with a 10-5 victory.

UW-Oshkosh also received fourth-place showings from Austin Loos at 141 pounds, Patrick Reilly at 165 and Michael Berg at 184.
