Titans Reel In Season-Opening Win Over Muskies

The UW-Oshkosh wrestling team jumped out to a double-digit lead and held on for a 25-19 season-opening victory over Lakeland College on Friday (Nov. 6) at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay.

UW-Oshkosh built a 13-0 lead on victories by Michael Berg at 184 pounds, John DePersia at 197 and Elijah Burdick at 285.

Berg began the meet with a 5-3 win over Mason Lind. DeParsia then pinned Anthony Chiarello in 3:32 before Burdick defeated Jared Schaaf, 10-0.

Following a UW-Oshkosh forfeit at 125 pounds, Alemayehu Lehman pinned Jonathan Flores in 4:59 at 133 pounds to cut the Muskies' deficit to 13-12.

The teams then exchanged three-point scores as UW-Oshkosh's Austin Loos defeated Ian Gioacchini, 5-3, at 141 pounds while Lakeland College's Cole Gonzalez ousted Hunter Mulock, 2-0, at 149.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) secured its victory with Mark Choinski's pin of Marcus McCauley in 4:52 at 157 pounds and Patrick Reilly's 7-5 overtime decision over Eddie Terres at 165.

Lakeland College (0-1) made it a six-point defeat with Mitchell Fucile's 13-4 triumph over Julius Smith at 174 pounds.

UW-Oshkosh returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 7) at the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Open.
