Buffington Leads Titans Over Blugolds

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Junior Emily Buffington set the new program record with 38.725 all-around points in the UW-Oshkosh gymnastics squad's Senior Night dual win over UW-Eau Claire on Friday, February 24 at Kolf Sports Center. As a team, the Titans outscored the Blugolds 191.675-184.275 for their best finish in Division III competition this season and behind their 192.425 point finish in the Rutgers University (N.J.) January Meet on Saturday, January 14.

Oshkosh scored 48.375 points on the vault, 47.075 points on the uneven parallel bars, 47.725 points on the balance beam and 48.500 points on the floor exercise.

In the first of three events she placed first in, Buffington scored a 9.775 on the vault, setting a new personal season high. Sophomore Mia Lucero took second, scoring 9.750 points. Freshman Reanna McGibboney, graduate student Rahdea Jarvis and senior Haley Volstad took third through fifth, scoring 9.750, 9.600 and 9.500 points, respectively. 

Buffington's 9.625 points in the parallel bars placed first. Sophomore Sam Zeilinger grabbed second with 9.600 points. Junior Kaylie Berens took third with 9.550 points and senior Adana Amor finished fourth, scoring 9.450 points. Senior Trinity Sawyer rounded out the top-eight with 8.850 points.

A personal season best 9.700 points earned Buffington the balance beam crown, followed in second by Berens with 9.550 points. Sophomore Delaney Cienkus and freshman Lydia Hayden tied for fourth with 9.500 points and freshman Mady Bellmore finished in sixth, scoring 9.475 points.

Cienkus took first in the floor exercise, scoring a season high 9.750 points for the third time this season. McGibboney and Jarvis both placed second with 9.725 points. Sawyer grabbed fifth (9.675) and Buffington took fifth (9.625).

After competing in all four events, Buffington finished the night with a combined 38.725 points off 9.775 vault points, 9.625 parallel bars points, 9.700 balance beam points and 9.625 floor exercise points. She passed Krystal Walker for first on the all-time all-around list. Walker scored a 38.425 twice in her career, at the 2014 and 2016 NCGA Championships.

The Titans return to action on Saturday, March 4 on the road. They will face UW-Whitewater at 4 p.m.
