Titans Open Season at Western Michigan Triangular; Set Season-Opener Record

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- UW-Oshkosh's start to its 2023 women's gymnastics season was once again record-breaking as the Titans placed third in a triangular hosted by Division I, Western Michigan University, on Sunday in Kalamazo.

The reigning National Collegiate Gymnastics Association and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Titans compiled a team score of 190.4 crushing their previous highest season-opening score of a 185.650 set last year at Hamline University (Minn.). 

UW-Oshkosh reached its overall sum by totaling points of 47.275 on vault, 47.35 on the uneven bars, 48.0 on the balance beam and 47.775 on the floor exercise. 

Sophomore Mia Lucero had a successful night earning the highest place finish for the Titans, tying for second on vault with a score of 9.725. Freshman Reanna McGibboney and senior Haley Volstad rounded out the top three performances on vault with scores of 9.675 and 9.5 respectively. 

Returning fifth year and two-time All American, Rahdea Jarvis led the Titans on uneven bars with her score of 9.675 while also contributing on vault with a 9.475.  Other top performances for UW-Oshkosh on uneven bars included sophomore Meaghan O'Connor with a 9.65 and junior Kaylie Berens with a 9.625. 

On the balance beam, sophomore Delaney Cienkus had the high score for the Titans with a 9.7. Other honorable mentions on the event for UW-Oshkosh were Berens and sophomore Liz Romano with 9.65 and 9.6 respectively. 

On the floor exercise, Titan senior Kennedy Springer finished sixth behind all Division I gymnasts with a score of 9.725. UW-Oshkosh also had junior Emily Buffington score a 9.65 and McGibboney scored a 9.6 to round out the Titans' top performances for the night on the floor. 

Looking Forward

The Titans travel to face Big Ten member, Rutgers University (N.J.) for a quad meet against the Red Knights along with Towson University (Md.), and Ball State (Ind.) on Saturday, Jan. 14.
