Titans Register Convincing Win Over Warriors

Winning performances in all five individual categories, including three by freshman Emily Buffington, helped UW-Oshkosh defeat Winona State University (Minn.), 188.100-181.900, in a women's gymnastics meet held Thursday (March 18) in Kolf Sports Center.

Buffington recorded winning scores of 9.575 on the balance beam and 9.625 on the uneven bars while finishing first in the all-around competition with an amount of 37.850. Her score in all three factions established a season high.

Buffington also placed second on the vault with a score of 9.30 and sixth in the floor exercise with a count of 9.35.

UW-Oshkosh, the defending WIAC champion, additionally received first-place results of 9.625 in the floor exercise from Olivia Keller and 9.775 on the vault from Trinity Sawyer. Sawyer's score on the vault was a season best.

The Titans dominated the meet by owning the top four scores on the uneven bars and the top three grades on both the balance beam and vault.

On the uneven bars, Buffington's winning score was followed by the second-place tally of 9.50 from Sawyer and the third-place counts of 9.475 from Emily Gilot and Haley Volstad.

On the balance beam, Buffington's first-place listing was followed by the second-place score of 9.475 from Keller, third-place result of 9.40 from Kaylie Berens and fifth-place mark of 9.375 from Rachel Morris.

The vault competition had Sawyer finish first, Buffington and Volstad second with scores of 9.30 and Berens sixth with an outcome of 9.10. 

UW-Oshkosh also had Rahdea Jarvis place second and Volstad fourth in the floor exercise with scores of 9.60 and 9.45, respectively.

In the all-around competition, Buffington was followed by Volstad's second-place score of 37.375 and Berens' third-place result of 36.275.

UW-Oshkosh achieved its overall team score with event calculations of 47.200 in the floor exercise, 47.175 on both the balance beam and uneven bars and 46.550 on the vault. The Titans' overall score and their team results in the balance beam, floor exercise and uneven bars competitions were all season bests.

Winona State University earned its overall team score with counts of 46.675 in the floor exercise, 45.750 on the balance beam, 45.450 on the vault and 44.025 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh closes its abbreviated 2021 season at UW-Whitewater on April 3.
