Fourteen Titans Earn WCGA Scholastic All-America Honors

Fourteen members of the 2020 UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team have been named Scholastic All-Americans by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).

Amira Ali, Adana Amor, Jessica Bernardo, Lexi Evans, Emily Gilot, Kaira Hammond, Naya Haynes, Rahdea Jarvis, Paige Mayhew, Haley Minor, Alyssa Nore, Leia Randall, Marisa Scholtens and Baylee Tkaczuk were all recognized for having a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher during the 2019-20 academic year. Bernardo, Gilot, Hammond, Nore and Tkaczuk were second-time award winners.

The WCGA recognized 893 gymnasts for their academic performance, including 21 from Southern Utah, 20 from Springfield College (Mass.), and 19 from West Chester (Pa.) and Eastern Michigan. 

As a team, the Titans were on top of the WIAC leaderboard with a 3.6145 grade point average (GPA). UWO was ranked 28thout 81 universities overall. Texas Woman's owned a nation-leading 3.8881 GPA while Eastern Michigan University followed at 3.8875.

Ali, a junior and kinesiology major who graduated early, posted a 3.65 GPA this year. The two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in eight meets with a 9.116 season average on the vault and a 9.179 season average on the floor exercise. Her best scores came at Texas Woman's when she recorded a 9.525 on the vault and 9.500 on the floor exercise.

A freshman kinesiology major, Amor tallied a 3.66 GPA. The WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member was unable to compete this season. 

Bernardo owns a 3.85 GPA this year as a major in biology. She finished eighth in the floor exercise, 14th on the uneven bars and 17th on the vault at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional. Bernardo competed in all nine of UW-Oshkosh's meets this season and recorded season-best scores of 9.375 on the vault, 9.575 on the uneven bars and 9.60 in the floor exercise. She was also placed on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the fourth time and the 2020 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-America In Academics Team.

Evans held a 3.53 GPA this year as a major in digital marketing. She did not compete in a meet for the Titans this season. She did earn a spot on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the second time.

Gilot, a sophomore kinesiology major, compiled a 3.65 GPA. The two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in all nine of UW-Oshkosh's meets this season and ranked second in the West Region and second nationally on the vault with her average score of 9.7438. She recorded a career-best figure of 9.775 on the vault during competitions at the Texas Woman's Quadrangular and against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). At the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional, Gilot was UW-Oshkosh's lone event champion. She achieved a winning score of 9.75 on the vault while placing eighth on the uneven bars with a figure of 9.475. 

Hammond, a sophomore kinesiology major, accumulated a 3.96 GPA. The 2019 and 2020 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member performed in every UW-Oshkosh meet this season and ranked 13th in the West Region and 20th nationally on the balance beam with her average score of 9.6063. She recorded a career-best mark of 9.675 on the balance beam at the Harley-Davidson Invitational. Hammond finished third on the balance beam with a score of 9.625 at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional.

Hayes, a junior, held a 3.78 GPA this year as a major in kinesiology. She did not compete in a meet for the Titans this season. She did earn a spot on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for the third time.

A sophomore business major, Jarvis recorded 3.68 GPA this year. She competed in every UW-Oshkosh meet this season and ranked seventh in the West Region and 11th nationally on the vault with her average score of 9.5813. She recorded a career-best figure of 9.675 on the vault against Gustavus Adolphus College. In the floor exercise, Jarvis ranked 12th in the West Region and 26th nationally with her average score of 9.5938. At the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional, the two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member finished second in the floor exercise and fourth on the vault with scores of 9.675 and 9.60, respectively. Her score in the floor exercise was a season best.

Mayhew, a junior kinesiology major, registered a perfect 4.00 GPA. The three-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member participated in eight meets this year and recorded a season average of 9.366 on the balance beam. Her best performance came at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional when she earned a 9.575.

A sophomore, Minor recorded a 3.68 GPA while majoring in nursing. She specialized in the vault for the Titans and posted a season average of 9.166. She has been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll two years in a row.

Nore recorded a 3.97 GPA as a sophomore biology major. The 2019 and 2020 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member competed in eight meets and averaged scores of 9.178 on the balance beam. Nore finished 12th on the balance beam at the 2020 WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional.

Randall, a freshman, held a 3.89 GPA this year as a major in biology. She did not compete in a meet for the Titans this season. She did earn a spot on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.

Scholtens earned a 3.51 GPA as a senior nursing major. She participated in two meets for the Titans this season and marked a season-best score of 8.70 on the balance beam.  She earned a place on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll each of her years in attendance.

Tkaczuk marked a perfect 4.00 GPA as a senior psychology major. The four-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member and WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award winner participated in each UW-Oshkosh meet this season and ranked second in the West Region and fifth nationally on the uneven bars with her average score of 9.6625. She recorded a season-best mark of 9.75 on the uneven bars at the Texas Woman's University Quadrangular. At this year's WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional, Tkaczuk finished second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.675 and 18th on the balance beam with a count of 9.375.
