Titans Defeated By Defending WIAC Champion

Leane Blais and Krystal Walker were event winners during the Titans' 185.825-182.925 loss to the UW-Whitewater women's gymnastics team on Saturday (Feb. 22) in Kolf Sports Center.

Blais took first place on the uneven bars with 9.375 points while finishing sixth on the balance beam with 9.25. Megan Love of UW-Whitewater ranked second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.275.

Walker tallied 9.425 points to capture first place on the balance beam. UW-Whitewater's Kristen Shackleton finished second with a value of 9.40.

Walker added third-place results of 9.35 points on the vault and 36.475 in the all-around competition. She also finished fourth in the floor exercise with a score of 9.40.

Other Titans recording top-six finishes were Elizabeth Kiel, Emily Ryan and Danielle Turner. Kiel placed fourth on the uneven bars with 9.125 points, while Ryan and Turner both ranked sixth with scores of 9.275 on the vault and 9.35 in the floor exercise, respectively.

Winning events for UW-Whitewater were Katie Fiorilli and Courtney Pickett. Fiorilli took first place on the vault with 9.50 points and the all-around competition with 37.425. Pickett was the winner in the floor exercise with 9.55 points.

UW-Oshkosh's team score was its second-highest of the season. The Titans reached their figure by compiling 46.35 points in the floor exercise, 46.3 on the vault, 45.75 on the balance beam and 44.525 on the uneven bars.

UW-Whitewater surpassed 46 points in three events, totaling 47.275 in the floor exercise, 46.775 on the vault and 46.675 on the balance beam. The defending WIAC champion Warhawks counted 45.1 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional next Sunday (March 1) in Whitewater. The meet features eight teams, with the top three qualifying for the NCGA National Championship on March 21-22 in Ithaca, N.Y.
