Downie Paces Titans at Mad Dawg Invitational

STEVENS POINT, Wis- The UW-Oshkosh women's golf program placed eighth after two days of competition in the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational at SentryWorld Golf Course held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 30-Oct. 1).

UW-Oshkosh finished eighth with a total of 585 total strokes (153-over par).

Saturday's round was cut short due to a weather delay, only allowing time for nine holes.

Ava Downie finished in 30th place, tied with UW-Stout's Madeline Kiley. She shot 50 strokes in round one and 91 in round two, totaling 141 strokes (33-over par) over the invitational's 27 holes.

The Titans also had Alyssa Dreher finish in 35th place with 147 strokes (39-over par), Hailey Matenaer following in 36th place with 148 strokes (40-over par), and Sophia Steel finishing in 37th place with 149 strokes (41-over par).

Sydney Bornhorst finished all nine holes on Saturday with 52 strokes(16-over par) before withdrawing from the meet.

Ellie Johnson and Kallie Lux, both of UW-Whitewater, tied for first with 117 total strokes (nine-over par). Macy Ludwig from Illinois Wesleyan followed behind in third with a total of 119 strokes (11-over par).

UW-Whitewater took home the team title with a total of 481 strokes (49-over par), with Illinois Wesleyan placing second with 482 total strokes (50-over par). UW-La Crosse took the third-place position with 504 total strokes (72-over par).

The Titans will head to the Reedsburg Country Club for the 28th edition of the WIAC Championship from Friday to Sunday (Oct. 6-8). The meet, hosted by UW-La Crosse in Reedsburg, is scheduled for an 11 a.m. shotgun start on Friday and 8:30 a.m. split tee starts on Saturday and Sunday.
