Downie Leads Golf At UW-La Crosse Fall Invitational

ONALASKA, Wis.- Ava Downie was once again the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team's top finisher, with a 16th place finish at the UW-La Crosse Fall Invitational at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 23-24).

Downie shot an 85 in both rounds of the meet for 170 total strokes (28-over par). She tied Courtney Drager of Viterbo University for 16th place.

Hailey Matenaer was also a top-20 finisher. She shot an 87 on Saturday and an 84 on Sunday for 171 total strokes (29-over par), taking a tie with Samantha Suski of Viterbo and Jenna Wiebke of UW-La Crosse for 18th place.

Taryn Endres, Sydney Bornhorst, Josie Hofer, Alyssa Dreher, Kylie Herrin, and Sophia Steel also played in the meet this weekend. Endres took 27th with 176 total strokes (34-over par), Bornhorst took 33rd with 180 total strokes (38-over par), Hofer tied for 34th with 181 total strokes (39-over par), Dreher shot 182 total strokes (40-over par) for 36th, Herrin shot 183 total strokes (41-over par) for 37th, and Steel rounded out UWO golfers with 194 total strokes (52-over par) for 42nd.

Allison Balduzzi of UW-La Crosse won the individual title with 152 total strokes (10-over par) and fellow Eagles Grace Ellison and Sophie Denure tied for second with 159 total strokes (17-over par).

The Titans shot 698 total strokes (130-over par) for a fifth place finish in team scoring.

The UWL 'A' Team won the team title, shooting 626 total strokes (58-over par), followed by the UWL 'B' Team with 648 total strokes (80-over par) and the Viterbo 'A' Team with 675 total strokes (107-over par).

The Titans will travel to Stevens Point on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) for the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational at SentryWorld Golf Course.
