Golfers Finish Sixth In Eau Claire

Ava Downie tied for ninth individually as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team finished sixth at the 12-team UW-Eau Claire Georgianni Blugold Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 11) at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club.

UW-La Crosse won the two-day invitational with a 70-over-par score of 642 strokes, shooting a 313 on Saturday (Sept. 10) and 329 on Sunday. The Eagles were followed in the standings by Macalester College (Minn.) in second with 670 strokes, College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) third at 676, Bethel University (Minn.) fourth at 678, host UW-Eau Claire fifth at 685 and UW-Oshkosh sixth at 689.

UW-Eau Claire's Lexi Meade won medalist honors by totaling 153 strokes, carding a 79 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday on the par-71 course.

Rounding out the top 10 individuals were UW-La Crosse's Andrea Schleeper in second place with 157 strokes, UW-La Crosse's Molly Larsen third at 158, Macalester's Bailey Lengfelder and Saint Benedict's Emily Renner fourth at 159, UW-La Crosse's Allison Balduzzi sixth at 161, Saint Benedict's Jamie Bimberg seventh at 163, Augsburg University's (Minn.) Elizabeth Fagerlind eighth at 166, and UW-Oshkosh's Downie and Bethel's Justine Malenke ninth at 167.

Downie provided UW-Oshkosh its best two rounds of the tournament, shooting an 84 on Saturday and an 83 on Sunday.

Also representing the Titans at the Georgianni Blugold Invitational were Lauryn Davis in 25th place with 174 total strokes, Taryn Endres 26th at 175, Josie Hofer 30th at 176 and Gwyn Golembiewski 47th at 190. Golembiewski carded an 85 on Sunday, while Davis and Endres both carded 86s during the final round.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Division III Classic next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 17-18) in Hastings, Minn.
