Golfers Win Fourth Straight Titan Classic
Ava Downie, Taryn Endres, Josie Hofer, Lauryn Davis and Hailey Matenaer all finished among the top 10 individuals as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team won its own Titan Classic on Monday (Sept. 5) at Mascoutin Golf Club in Berlin.
UW-Oshkosh secured the two-day Titan Classic title with scores of 354 on Sunday (Sept. 4) and 345 on Monday. The Titans owned a 13-stroke lead following Sunday's round and finished 12 shots ahead of runner-up UW-Stevens Point (711, 367-344).
Rounding out the standings at the seven-team Titan Classic were St. Norbert College in third with 738 strokes (370-368), UW-Oshkosh's second team in fourth with 781 (385-396), Marian University in fifth with 785 (388-397), St. Norbert's second team in sixth with 856 (428-428) and Lakeland University seventh with 1,029 (527-502).
UW-Stevens Point's Bree Downie claimed medalist honors with a 20-over-par total of 165 strokes, carding an 84 Sunday and a tournament-best 81 Monday.
The top 10 individuals included UW-Oshkosh's Ava Downie and St. Norbert's Emma Laundrie in second with 167 strokes, UW-Stevens Point's Kate Downie fourth with 170, Endres fifth with 171, St. Norbert's Olivia Lamers sixth with 173, Hofer seventh with 174, UW-Stevens Point's Tess Bruner eighth with 180, UW-Stevens Point's Claire Tomczik ninth with 183, and UW-Oshkosh's Davis and Matenaer 10th with 191.
Gwyn Golembiewski placed 13th with 194 strokes for UW-Oshkosh.
UWO clinched its fourth consecutive Titan Classic championship after also winning in 2018, 2019 and 2021. The event was not held in 2020.
UW-Oshkosh competes at both the Marian University Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 9-10) in Fond du Lac and the Georgianni Blugold Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 10-11) in Eau Claire.
