Titans Open Spring Schedule With Fifth-Place Finish

UW-Oshkosh opened the spring portion of its 2021-22 women's golf schedule by finishing fifth among 13 teams at the Carthage College Firebird Spring Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (April 9-10) at the Bristol Oaks Country Club in Bristol.

The Titans finished the 36-hole tournament with 720 strokes (144-over-par), counting 356 on the first day of competition and 364 on the second.

Aurora University (Ill.) tallied 666 strokes (90-over-par) to claim the team title. UW-Whitewater finished second to the Spartans with 703 strokes while Carthage College placed third with 710, Elmhurst University (Ill.) fourth with 715 and UW-Platteville sixth with 735.

Ava Downie paced UW-Oshkosh with her 10th-place finish. She recorded daily scores of 82 and 88 to finish the event with 170 strokes (26-over-par). Titan Erika Priebe placed 13th with 174 strokes.

Kallie Sakamoto of Aurora University captured the individual title with 159 strokes (15-over-par) while Markie Ash of UW-Platteville finished second with 165. Avary Henry and Sarah Isaacs of Aurora University, Adrienne Rohwedder of Carthage College, Makayla Sanchez of Lake Forest College (Ill.) and Shannon Smith of University of St. Francis (Ill.) all placed third among the tournament's 79 golfers with 166 strokes.

Other UW-Oshkosh results featured Megan Footit finishing 21st with 182 strokes, Josie Hofer 37th 194, Alyssa Dreher 48th with 199 and Gwyn Golembiewski 56th with 205.

UW-Oshkosh's next competition is scheduled for April 22-23 at the UW-Whitewater Spring Invitational. The 36-hole tournament will be held at the Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.
