Hofer Earns Ninth-Place Finish At Falcon Invitational

Josie Hofer of the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team dropped 11 strokes off her second 18-hole round to finish in a tie for ninth place at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational held Friday and Saturday (Oct. 1-2) at the Clifton Highlands Golf Course in Prescott.

Hofer totaled 175 strokes (31-over-par) over the tournament's 36 holes, including 82 on Saturday. She shared her finish among the event's 43 golfers with Viterbo University's Madison Zloto.

UW-Oshkosh also had Alyssa Dreher place 27th with 192 strokes (48-over-par), Mackenzie Retzlaff 37th with 208 (64-over-par) and Gwyn Golembiewski 38th with 209 (65-over-par).

UW-Eau Claire's Lexi Meade captured the individual title with 156 strokes (12-over-par). She was the only golfer to score below 80 strokes during each round of the competition.

Markie Ash of UW-Platteville and Bree Downie of UW-Stevens Point shared second place with 166 strokes while Jaden Woiwode of UW-Eau Claire finished fourth with 170. Megan Glaeser of UW-Eau Claire and Cadence Moe of UW-River Falls both ranked fifth with 172 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh finished sixth in the seven-team field with 784 strokes (208-over-par). The Titans, who rested several of their top golfers, counted 391 strokes on Friday and 393 on Saturday. 

UW-Eau Claire claimed the team title with 668 strokes (92-over-par). The Blugolds were followed by second-place UW-River Falls with 714 strokes, third-place Viterbo University with 716, fourth-place UW-Platteville with 725, fifth-place UW-Stevens Point with 730, sixth-place UW-Oshkosh and seventh-place Viterbo University (B) with 803.

UW-Oshkosh returns to competition Friday (Oct. 8) at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver's) in Reedsburg. The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 9-10) at the Reedsburg Country Club.

UW-Oshkosh, a four-time WIAC champion, has finished third or higher at six of the last seven league championships. The Titans captured conference titles during the 2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2015-16 seasons.
