Pettenuzzo Finishes 23rd At St. Kate’s Fall Invitational

UW-Oshkosh's Margherite Pettenuzzo improved her first-round score by eight strokes to finish in a tie for 23rd place at the St. Kate's Fall Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 25-26) at the Oak Glen Golf Course in Stillwater, Minn.

Pettenuzzo totaled 78 strokes (6-over-par) during Sunday's competition to conclude the 36-hole tournament with 164 (20-over-par) swings. She was in 35th place with 86 strokes after Saturday's activity.

Pettenuzzo, who reached her overall score with the help of three birdies and 18 pars, shared 23rd place among the tournament's 81 golfers with Sydney Grimm of UW-Stout and Carissa Oberding of The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.).

Athena Kwon of Carleton College (Minn.) captured the individual title with 146 strokes (2-over-par) while Abbey Filipiak of UW-Stout finished second with 149 (5-over-par).

Sydney Brandt of St. Catherine University (Minn.), Kristin Miyagi of Carleton College and Kyra Venne of St. Catherine University (B) all placed third with 151 strokes (7-over-par).

UW-Oshkosh also had Josie Hofer finish 43rd with 174 strokes, Megan Footit 48th with 176, Lauryn Davis 50th with 178, Ava Downie 52nd with 179 and Gwyn Golembiewski 69th with 192.

UW-Oshkosh finished 12th among the 14 competing teams with 690 strokes (114-over-par). The Titans totaled 345 strokes during each 18-hole round of play.

St. Catherine University (B) won the team championship with 617 strokes (41-over-par) while Carleton College finished second with 622 (46-over-par) and St. Catherine University third with 626 (50-over-par).

UW-Stout ranked fourth in the team standings with 649 strokes (73-over-par) and Bethel University (Minn.) fifth with 656 (80-over-par).

UW-Oshkosh travels to Prescott next weekend for the UW-River Falls Invitational. Competition will be played Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 1-2) at the Clifton Highlands Golf Course.
