Pettenuzzo Paces Titans At WIAC Championship

Margherite Pettenuzzo finished 20th, Lauryn Davis 21st and Nikki Differt 27th to lead UW-Oshkosh at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship (presented by Culver's) held Friday through Sunday (April 30-May 2) at the Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg.

Pettenuzzo totaled 258 strokes (48-over-par) during the 54-hole tournament after posting daily 18-hole scores of 84, 92 and 82. Pettenuzzo, who finished 13th at the WIAC Championship in 2019 and 26th in 2018, earned this year's result with the help of two birdies and 18 pars.

Davis compiled 260 strokes (50-over-par) to share her finish with UW-Stevens Point's Brooke Tuszka. Davis, who tallied daily scores of 86, 90 and 84, was a 28th-place finisher at the 2019 championship.

Differt recorded daily scores of 88, 90 and 87 to conclude the championship with 265 strokes (55-over-par). She was a 24th-place finisher at the 2019 WIAC Championship.

UW-Oshkosh also had Megan Footit finish in a tie for 34th with 272 strokes (94-88-90). Footit, who placed 33rd at the 2019 championship, paced the Titans at this year's tournament with three birdies.

Other Titans competing at this year's championship were Ava Downie and Gwyn Golembiewski. Downie finished 52nd with 299 strokes (108-98-93) and Golembiewski 55th with 323 (123-98-102).

UW-Whitewater's Kristin Bowe, a sixth-place finisher at the 2019 championship, captured this year's title with 223 strokes (13-over-par). UW-Stevens Point's Bree Downie finished second with 227 strokes while UW-Whitewater's CheyAnn Knudsen placed third with 228 and UW-Stout's Abbey Filipiak fourth with 237.

UW-Oshkosh finished seventh in the team competition with 1,055 strokes (215-over-par). The Titans, who placed third at the previous three conference championships, acquired this year's score with daily stroke counts of 352, 360 and 343.

UW-Whitewater accumulated a WIAC-record 925 strokes (85-over-par) to claim its fourth straight league title and sixth overall. The victory gave the Warhawks the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship that is scheduled for May 11-14 at the Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing, Mich.

UW-La Crosse placed second to UW-Whitewater in this year's conference championship with 963 strokes while UW-Stout ranked third with 1,021, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 1,026, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 1,028, UW-Platteville sixth with 1,053 and UW-River Falls eighth with 1,094.
