Titans Finish Fourth At UW-Whitewater Spring Fling

Lauryn Davis ranked sixth and Margherite Pettenuzzo 14th among 57 participants to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling held Saturday (April 24) at the Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.

UW-Whitewater won the 18-hole tournament with 308 strokes (20-over-par) while UW-La Crosse finished second with 319 and UW-Whitewater (B) third with 335.

UW-Oshkosh placed fourth in the 10-team field with 336 strokes (48-over-par). It was the Titans' third top-four finish in four meets, following a third-place performance at the six-team Carthage College Firebird Invitational held April 3 and a first-place effort at the seven-team Marian University Invitational held April 10.

UW-Steven Point finished fifth in the team standings with 342 strokes, UW-Platteville sixth with 347, Lakeland University seventh with 357, Marian University eighth with 389, Concordia University Wisconsin ninth with 393 and St. Norbert College 10th with 394.

Davis paced the Titans by totaling 79 strokes (seven-over-par) and sharing sixth place in the individual competition with UW-Stevens Point's Bree Downie. Davis earned her score, which included one birdie and nine pars, by counting 41 strokes on the front nine and 38 on the back nine.

UW-Oshkosh's Pettenuzzo used one birdie and seven pars to finish in a five-way tie for 14th place with 83 strokes (11-over-par). Other golfers sharing the finish were Grace Ellison from UW-La Crosse and Jennifer Berardi, Grace Westerman and Lauren Winter from UW-Whitewater (B).

The Titans also had Nikki Differt place 21st with 86 strokes, Ava Downie 25th with 88, Megan Footit 32nd with 91 and Gwyn Golembiewski 52nd with 105. Differt recorded one birdie and seven pars while Downie tallied one birdie and five pars.

UW-La Crosse's Molly Larson and UW-Whitewater's Ashton Sinak both compiled 74 strokes (two-over-par) to share the individual title.

Kristin Bowe, CheyAnn Knudsen and Lily Sheppard of UW-Whitewater each tied for third place with matching scores of 78.

UW-Oshkosh returns to competition Friday (April 30) at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (presented by Culver's) in Reedsburg. The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday and Sunday (May 1-2) at the Reedsburg Country Club.

UW-Oshkosh, a four-time WIAC champion, has finished third or higher at each of the past six league championships. The Titans captured conference titles during the 2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2015-16 seasons.
