Titans Place Sixth At UW-Whitewater Invitational

Twelfth-place finishes from Lauryn Davis and Margherite Pettenuzzo helped UW-Oshkosh rank sixth among 13 women's golf programs at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Friday and Saturday (April 16-17) at the Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.

UW-Oshkosh concluded the 36-hole tournament with 683 strokes (107-over-par). The Titans earned their sixth-place performance following 340 strokes on Friday and 343 on Saturday. UW-Oshkosh was in fifth place after the first day of activity.

UW-Whitewater tallied 634 strokes (58-over-par) en route to the team title. Carthage College finished second to the Warhawks with 639 strokes while University of Dubuque (Iowa) placed third with 662, UW-Whitewater "B" fourth with 671 and University of Dubuque "B" fifth with 672.

Davis and Pettenuzzo totaled 165 strokes (21-over-par) apiece after both counting 82 strokes on Friday and 83 on Saturday. Davis finished the event with three birdies and 15 pars while Pettenuzzo registered one birdie and 18 pars.

In addition to the 12th-place results of Davis and Pettenuzzo, UW-Oshkosh had Ava Downie finish 24th with 169 strokes, Megan Footit 47th with 184 and Gwyn Golembiewski 69th with 228. Downie compiled one birdie and 17 pars during the tournament while Footit accumulated one birdie and six pars.

Wheaton College's (Ill.) Marin Halvorsen edged UW-Whitewater's CheyAnn Knudsen and Carthage College's Kate Munro for the individual title. Halvorsen captured first place with 152 strokes (8-over-par) while Knudsen finished second with 153 and Munro third with 154. UW-Whitewater's Ashton Sinak placed fourth among the tournament's 72 golfers with 156 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh returns to Janesville's Riverside Golf Course next Saturday (April 24) for the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling.
