Titans Place 11th Among 20 Teams In Iowa

Hannah Braun and Micayla Richards finished among the top 14 individuals as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team placed 11th at the Wartburg College (Iowa) Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 9-10) at the Prairie Links Golf Event Center in Waverly, Iowa.

Braun totaled 153 strokes (9-over-par) to share 10th place in the 36-hole tournament with Melissa Biesmann of St. Olaf College (Minn.), Vidushi Sinha of Grinnell College (Iowa) and Emily Thuk of University of St. Thomas (Minn.). Braun reached her overall score by counting 76 strokes for 18 holes on Saturday and 77 on Sunday. She finished the tournament with three birdies and 23 pars.

Richards compiled 155 strokes to finish 14th with Carthage College's Ayumi Sakamoto. Richards had daily scores of 77 for Saturday and 78 for Sunday. Her overall score included two birdies and 23 pars.

Wartburg College's Brooke Kostermann won a tiebreaker over Carleton College's (Minn.) Alyssa Akiyama for the top individual finish. Both golfers tallied 143 strokes (1-under-par), with Kostermann accumulating 74 on Saturday and a tournament-low 69 on Sunday.

Rounding out the top five golfers were Rachel Hernandez of UW-Stout, Sydney Busker of St. Catherine University (Minn.) and CheyAnn Knudsen of UW-Whitewater. Hernandez finished third among the 118 competitors with 145 strokes while Busker and Knudsen shared fourth place with 148.

UW-Oshkosh was represented by five other golfers in the meet – Hanna Rebholz, who finished 55th with 168 strokes; Kayla Priebe, who ranked 65th with 170; Ireland Dunne and Keara Richards, who both placed 75th with 173; and Dianna Scheibe, who listed 81st with 176.

Carleton College won the 20-team meet with 616 strokes (40-over-par). The Knights were closely followed by the 618 strokes of second-place and defending WIAC champion UW-Stout.

Grinnell College and St. Catherine University shared third place with 629 strokes while St. Olaf College finished fifth with 630. UW-Oshkosh recorded daily scores of 324 and 327 to finish 11th with 651 overall strokes.

UW-Oshkosh will compete this Saturday (Sept. 16) and Sunday (Sept. 17) at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational in Normal, Ill.
