Braun First, Titans Second In Season Debut

Hannah Braun's first collegiate victory helped the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team to a second-place finish at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic held Sunday (Sept. 3) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

Both the first and second rounds of the 36-hole event were completed on Sunday after Saturday's (Sept. 2) action was postponed after a few holes due to inclement weather.

Braun, who finished third in the tournament a year ago, won this year's title by five strokes over Illinois Wesleyan University's Maggie Warrner. Braun captured the victory with 155 strokes (9-over-par) while Warrner finished second with 160 and UW-Stout's Madison McCambridge third with 162.

Braun recorded a tournament-low 73 strokes during the second round after totaling 82 in the first. She led all players with 21 pars and shared the tournament's top listing for birdies with four.

Rounding out the top five golfers were UW-Stout's Rachel Hernandez and Illinois Wesleyan University's Jenna DeMay. Hernandez finished fourth among the 71 golfers with 165 strokes while DeMay placed fifth with 168. UW-Oshkosh's Micayla Richards also tallied 168 strokes, but settled for sixth place after losing a NCAA scoring tiebreaker with DeMay. Richards concluded the tournament with 16 pars and two birdies.

Defending WIAC champion UW-Stout totaled 666 strokes (82-over-par) to end UW-Oshkosh's two-year reign as champion of the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic. The Blue Devils led UW-Oshkosh and Illinois Wesleyan University by one stroke, 340-341, after the first round before pulling away with a tournament-low 326 strokes during the second.

UW-Oshkosh tallied 675 strokes (91-over-par) after counting 334 during the second round. The second-place Titans were followed in the 12-team meet by third-place Illinois Wesleyan University with 678 strokes and fourth-place UW-Eau Claire with 690.

In addition to Braun and Micayla Richards, UW-Oshkosh also had Kayla Priebe finish 15th with 174 strokes, Dianna Scheibe 22nd with 178, Ireland Dunne 24th with 179, Keara Richards 34th with 187 and Hanna Rebholz 39th with 188.

The Titans also had Sophia Mazurek place 42nd with 192 strokes, Michelle Lodholz 57th with 206 and Claire Hamburg 65th with 229.
