Titans' Return To Action Results In 13th-Place Finish

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team returned to action after a six-month break and finished 13th out of 22 squads at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling held Friday and Saturday (April 14-15) at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh, which hasn't competed since the WIAC Championship on Oct. 9, earned its 13th-place finish at the Kathy Niepagan Spring Fling by totaling 669 strokes (93-over-par) during the 36-hole tournament. The Titans tallied 332 strokes on the first day of competition and 337 on the second.

Indiana Tech claimed the team title with 609 strokes (33-over-par) while Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) finished second with 623 and Carthage College third with 633.

University of St. Thomas (Minn.) placed fourth in the team standings with 637 strokes, St. Catherine University (Minn.) fifth with 638 and host Illinois Wesleyan University sixth with 640.

UW-Oshkosh was led in the individual competition by Micayla Richards' 32nd-place finish. Richards accumulated 162 strokes (18-over-par) after counting 82 strokes on the first day of activity and 80 on the second.

The Titans also had Hannah Braun finish 42nd with 164 strokes, Dianna Scheibe 62nd with 170, Laura Stair 77th with 173 and Hanna Rebholz 98th with 182. Braun recorded 23 pars for the third-highest total among the tournament's 111 golfers.

Wiebke Schlender of Indiana Tech captured the individual title with 142 strokes (2-under-par) while Lizzy Mavrogenes of Illinois Wesleyan University, Courtney Dye of Indiana Tech and Angelica Harris of Washington University shared second place with 151 (7-over-par). Stephanie Walter of Carthage College finished fifth with 152 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh will compete next Friday and Saturday (April 21-22) at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling in Beloit.
