Titans Finish Fourth At Wartburg College Invitational

UW-Oshkosh improved its daily score by eight strokes en route to a fourth-place finish at the Wartburg College Women's Golf Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 10-11) at the Prairie Links Golf and Events Center in Waverly, Iowa.

The Titans totaled 642 strokes (66-over-par) after recording daily 18-hole scores of 325 on Saturday and 317 on Sunday. UW-Oshkosh shared fourth place with Bethel University (Minn.), which counted 331 strokes on Saturday and 311 on Sunday.

Carleton College (Minn.) won the 14-team tournament with 608 strokes (32-over-par). The Knights tallied tournament bests of 314 strokes on Saturday and 294 on Sunday.

The University of St. Thomas (Minn.), which finished eighth at last year's NCAA Division III Championship, finished second to Carleton College with 634 strokes. The Tommies were followed by third-place UW-Stout with 636 strokes.

A trio of teams shared sixth place as Grinnell College (Iowa), Illinois Wesleyan University and St. Catherine University (Minn.) all tabulated 653 strokes. Central College (Iowa) finished ninth with 661 strokes and UW-Whitewater 10th with 668.

UW-Oshkosh had its top three scorers finish within four places and three strokes of each other.

Hannah Braun led the Titans by finishing 13th with 157 strokes (13-over-par), while Kayla Priebe ranked 14th with 158 and Laura Stair 16th with 159. Braun had daily scores of 80 on Saturday and 77 on Sunday. Priebe and Stair also improved their daily results, going from 80 to 78 and 80 to 79, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh had two other golfers in the meet, Micayla Richards, who finished 44th with 168 strokes, and Ireland Dunne, who placed 70th with 182.

Carleton and Grinnell colleges both owned two of the top five individual finishers. Carleton College had Alyssa Akiyama place first with 145 strokes (one-over-par) and Ziyi Wang fourth with 150, while Grinnell College had Vidushi Sinha finish second with 146 strokes and Vrishali Sinha fifth with 152.

Christine Piwnica of Bethel University finished third among the meet's 87 golfers with 147 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh, which placed 14th at last year's NCAA Division III Championship, competes at the Division III Classic next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 17-18) in Lake City, Minn.
