Priebe, Titans Win UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic Titles

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team began its quest for a return trip to the NCAA postseason by winning the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 3-4) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

Kayla Priebe earned medalist honors and Hannah Braun finished third in her collegiate debut to lead the Titans to their season-opening victory and a repeat of their UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic title captured a year ago.

UW-Oshkosh took first place by 23 strokes over runner-up UW-Stout in the team standings. The Titans finished the 36 holes with 647 strokes (63-over-par), including daily best scores of 321 on Saturday and 326 on Sunday.

UW-Stout finished second among the 10 teams with 670 strokes, while Viterbo University placed third with 673, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 686 and Carroll University fifth with 710.

Rounding out the team listings were sixth-place UW-River Falls with 720 strokes, seventh-place St. Norbert College with 724, eighth-place UW-Stevens Point with 767, ninth-place Marian University with 775 and 10th-place Edgewood College with 944.

Priebe, who finished second to current Titan Laura Stair by one stoke at last year's tournament, earned this year's top performance with a career-best 36-hole score of 152 (6-over-par). Priebe recorded identical daily scores of 76 strokes to defeat Viterbo University's Danielle Ducklow, who recorded 83 strokes on Saturday and a tournament-low 74 on Sunday for a second-place total of 157.

Priebe, whose previous best 36-hole score was 158 at the 2015 UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic, collected five birdies and a tournament-leading 20 pars. She also led the field of 74 golfers on the by shooting 5-over on par-4 holes and 1-under on par-5s.

Braun shot an opening-round 78 and closed with 80 strokes to finish six shots behind Priebe.

Viterbo University's Bailey Schmidt placed fourth with 160 strokes and UW-Stout's Alexa Filipiak fifth with 161.

Also finishing among the top 10 individuals were UW-Eau Claire's Allison Chomniak in sixth place with 162 strokes, UW-Oshkosh's Micayla Richards in seventh with 164 and UW-Stout's Madison McCambridge eighth with 167. UW-Oshkosh's Ireland Dunne and UW-Stout's Marie Allo shared ninth place with 171 strokes.

Also counting toward UW-Oshkosh's team score were Stair, who finished 14th with 173 strokes, and Amanda Pederson, who placed 55th with 201.

Other UW-Oshkosh results featured Dianna Scheibe placing 14th with 173 strokes and Hanna Rebholz 31st with 182.

The Titans travel to Waverly, Iowa, for the Wartburg College Invitational next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 10-11).
