Two Former Titans Named To WIAC All-Centennial Team

Former UW-Oshkosh golfers Markka Farrington and Jennifer Young have been selected as members of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (WIAC) Women's Golf All-Time Team. The league chose 10 individuals as part of its centennial anniversary celebration.

Farrington (1999-2002) and Young (2004-07) are the only two golfers in school history to receive All-America honors. Farrington was the 2001 WIAC Champion after firing rounds of 80 and 74 at the league meet. She then posted four rounds in the 70s to place seventh at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Earning All-WIAC recognition each of her four years, Farrington finished her career strong. The 2002 campaign included a season-best score of 71 at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational. Farrington took third place at the WIAC Championship and 18th at the national tournament to earn All-America status.

Young made the NCAA Division III All-America squad four times. In her freshman season (2004), UW-Oshkosh captured the WIAC title and Young placed second at the conference meet. The Titans later finished fourth at the NCAA Championship for the best standing in program history.

During 2006, Young captured second place at the Augustana College Invitational, Carthage College Invitational and UW-Whitewater Invitational. She recorded two more finishes of second in 2007, but she also reached the top of the podium. Young took first place at both the UW-Oshkosh Invitational and UW-Stevens Point Invitational to close the year. She then came in 12th place at the NCAA Tournament.

Five of the WIAC All-Time picks came from UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds on the squad were Maggie Loney (2003-06), Katie Maurer (2009-11), Jennifer Prock (2001-04), Meghan Sobotta (2005-08) and Jessica Thompson (2004-07). The remaining golfers were Christy Huegerich (1999-02) and Beth St. Thomas (1982-86) of UW-Whitewater and Jessica Urban (2007-10) of UW-Stevens Point. UW-Eau Claire's John Means (2006-11) was named the All-Time Coach.

The WIAC is recognizing the outstanding individuals from the league's 100-year history. All-time teams are being selected in those men's and women's sports that have been classified as "championship" sports at some point since 1913. Additional teams will be released on a weekly basis throughout much of the 2011-12 academic year.

All-time team members will receive certificates from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC Centennial Banquet in Madison on Aug. 4, 2012.
