Vaile Leads Titans To 30-Point Victory Over Pointers

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team took down UW-Stevens Point 67-37 on Saturday (Jan. 20) at the Kolf Sports Center.

Oshkosh was led by Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale), who collected her third double-double of the season. She registered 24 points and 12 rebounds (seven offensive). Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) added 12 points, nine rebounds, and five steals while Sarah Hardwick (So. • Fond du Lac) tallied three blocks and eight points for the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh (14-3, 5-1 WIAC) shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the field, 30.8 percent (eight-of-26) from three, and 100 percent (11-of-11) from the line, leading UW-Stevens Point (13-4, 2-4 WIAC) in all three. The Titans also led in assists (13-2), points off turnovers (8-5), points in the paint (26-24), and second chance points (17-6).

The Pointers scored the first points four minutes into the game and the Titans answered with two made free throw by Osterman. Oshkosh went on a five-point run before the Pointers scored again and continued to hold the lead. Hardwick made two free throws before Allison Forney (Sr. • Batavia, Ill.) secured a three-pointer for a 12-7 lead. The Pointers scored off a layup to end the first quarter with a score of 12-9.

Early in the second, the Pointers closed the gap to just a point before Osterman sank a three for the Titans. A layup from Stevens Point prompted the Titans to go on a seven-point spurt for a 22-13 lead. After a second made layup from the Pointers, Oshkosh went on another 7-0 run consisting of a three pointer from Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown) and layups from Osterman and Vaile. The teams traded points for the remainder of the second quarter and went into halftime with a score of 32-18.

Avery Poole (So. • Cottage Grove) started the third quarter with two points for Oshkosh and Vaile followed up with a layup. The Pointers secured five points before Osterman sunk a three pointer. The Titans put up seven points before Stevens Point was able to score again. Ending the third, Vaile made a three-pointer and two free throws followed by Osterman with a made layup to hold a 25-point lead.

In the fourth, the teams went back and forth with while the Titans held a steady lead. The Titans continued to extend their lead with a layup from Hardwick and Vaile. UW-Oshkosh surpassed 60 points with jump shots from Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) and Olivia Argall (So. • Dodgeville) for a 62-36 lead. Mallory Lindsey (So. • Mineral Point) ended the game with a three-pointer to secure a 30-point victory over the Pointers.

The Titans will return on the road Wednesday (Jan. 24) against UW-Eau Claire. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Zorn Arena.
