24th-Ranked Titans Overpower Falcons

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The No. 24 nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team took down the UW-River Falls Falcons 69-55 on Saturday night (Jan. 13) at the Kolf Sports Center.

All five starters for the Titans scored 10 or more points in the win. Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) scored 13 points for the Titans, shooting five-of-nine from the field, two-of-three from three and one-of-two from the line, Vaile also led the team with eight rebounds. Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown), Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee), and Avery Poole (So. • Cottage Grove) each scored 12 points. Osterman and Poole each had a perfect night at the free throw line with Osterman going four-for-four and Poole going six-for-six. Sarah Hardwick rounded out the starters' scoring with 10 points on five-of-seven shots from the field while recording five rebounds and three steals.

UW-Oshkosh (12-3, 3-1 WIAC) paced the Falcons (8-7, 1-3 WIAC), shooting 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from three and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the line, while UW-River Falls led with a 40.0 percent (20-of-50) clip from the field. The Titans led in assists (11 to two) and won the turnover battle (eight to 18).

Vaile got the scoring started early with a layup to give the Titans the first and last lead just 40 seconds into the game. The Titans continued with their early push with a 7-0 lead and after another seven-point run, the Titans finished the first quarter with a 14-6 lead behind two layups from Vaile and Hardwick. In the second, The Titans extended their lead to 22-10 after two three-pointers from Froehlke and Poole. The Falcons were able to cut the Oshkosh lead down to seven points before a three from Froehlke sent the game into half with the score sitting at 29-19.

Early in the third, a 12-2 Titan spurt pushed their edge up to 41-21. The Falcons never came within 16 points of Oshkosh as the quarter ended with a 48-30 score. In the fourth quarter, River Falls scored nine-straight in just over a minute to make the score 55-41 with 6:49 to go, which Poole and Froehlke responded to with back-to-back three-point shots. Huml added another after the Falcons made their own. Allison Forney (Sr. • Batavia, Ill.) registered the final points of the game for Oshkosh on a layup.

The Titans will return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 17) for an away game at UW-La Crosse. Tip-off is set for 7 P.M.
