Nationally Ranked Titans Overtake Pioneers

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- Nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball defeated UW-Platteville 54-47 on the road Wednesday night (Jan. 10).

UW-Oshkosh (11-3, 2-1 WIAC) led the Pioneers shooting 33.3 percent (seven-of-21) from three and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the line, while UW-Platteville (8-6, 1-2 WIAC) shot 36.4 percent (16-of-44) from the field. The Titans also led in bench points (24 to eight) and assists (nine to three).

Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) registered her first career double-double, racking up 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Titans, going four-for-nine from the field, two-for-five from three, and six-for-six from the line. Mallory Hoitink (Fr. • Hartford) and Mackenzie Tlachac (Sr. • Kewaunee) had eight and nine points, respectively. Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) recorded five rebounds (two offensive).

The Titans kept the score close throughout the first quarter while trading points back and forth with the Pioneers. Oshkosh was down by as much as six points before Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) lessened it to four points with a jump shot. The Titans went on an eight point run to gain the lead in the second quarter and Platteville captured the lead again with 59 seconds left. The rest of the quarter remained scoreless with the Pioneers leading by one heading into halftime.

Platteville opened the third with the first points before Sarah Hardwick (So. • Green Bay) closed the gap with a three pointer. The Titans gained the lead for a short time before Platteville took back a one point lead with a layup. A three pointer from Hoitink secured the lead for the Titans again before the Pioneers tied it up with a jump shot. Platteville extended its lead with four made free throws before Tlachac made a jump shot and a free throw to close the gap. Osterman made a three pointer to gain the lead back for the Titans at the end of the quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Platteville tied the game up with a jump shot before taking the lead with a free throw. The Titans responded with a three pointer from Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown), once again taking back the lead. The teams continued to trade points and the edge before Oshkosh broke away for an eight point lead. The Pioneers decreased the deficit and Oshkosh continued to lead by at least five points. Osterman ended the game with two made shots from the line, securing the seven point win.

Titans return to action at home on Saturday (Jan. 13) to face UW-River Falls for a 3 p.m. tip off.
