Titans’ Streak Snapped By Warhawks

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's basketball fell 79-71 to UW-Whitewater at the Kolf Sports Center on Wednesday night (Jan. 3), bringing its five-game winning streak to an end.

The Titans (9-3, 0-1 WIAC) shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the field, 20 percent (four-of-20) from the three, and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the line,  leading the Warhawks (12-0, 1-0 WIAC) in free throw percentage along with points off turnover (18 to 10), points in the paint (42 to 32), and bench points (42 to eight).

Mackenzie Tlachac (Sr. • Kewaunee) lead the Titans with 21 points and eight rebounds (both career-highs), going nine-of-13 from the field, and three-of-four from the line. Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) had 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists and Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) had 10 points and five rebounds.

The Titans came back in the first quarter after the Warhawks opened the game with a seven point run on a Sarah Hardwick (So. • Green Bay) layup. Oshkosh kept the score tight throughout, with only a seven point deficit at the end of the quarter. Oshkosh gained a lead in the second quarter after an 11-0 spurt to make the score 30-28 with 1:24 to go. The teams then tied up at 32 points before the Warhawks made two late free throws.

Whitewater broke away in the third and was up by at as much as 11 points over the Titans with 3:51 left, holding a 10-point lead by the end of the period. The Titans were down 20 points in the final five minutes before scoring 13-straight to make the score 72-65 at 1:19. They were held to just two points against Whitewater's six in the final minute, taking an eight-point loss.

The Titans return on the road Saturday (Jan. 6) to face UW-Stout (11-1, 1-0 WIAC) for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
