Three Titans Reach Double-Digit Points In Win Over Redhawks

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team defeated Ripon College 69-41 for its second win of the BSN Winter Classic at the Oshkosh Arena on Saturday night (Dec. 30).

Three Titans scored at least 10 points in the win. Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown) and Mallory Hoitink (Fr. • Hartford) each scored 17 points. Froehlke shot six-of-11 from three and five-of-eight from three with three blocks while Hoitink made six-of-10 from the field and two-of-five from three off the bench. Mackenzie Tlachac recorded 11 points on five-of-six from the field and one-of-two from the line as a bench player. Sarah Hardwick (So. • Fond du Lac) led the Titans with seven rebounds (one offensive).

Oshkosh shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the field, 35 percent (seven-of-20) from three and 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the line, leading the Redhawks in field goal and three-point percentages. The Titans also led in assists (9-3), points off turnovers (22-3), points in the paint (32-24) and bench points (35-17).

Ripon scored the first three points of the game and the Titans responded with a 13-0 run that included three Froehlke threes. The teams traded points the rest of the quarter and UW-Oshkosh held a 20-3 lead headed into the second. The Titans further extended their lead to 30-11 with 1:21 left in the second quarter after an eight-point run before the Redhawks scored four-straight headed into halftime.

The Redhawks got within 11 points of the Titans in the last two minutes of the third quarter which the Titans answered with another 8-0 run. Both teams made free throws in the last 20 seconds and headed into the final period with a 44-26 Oshkosh lead.

Oshkosh increased its lead to 20 points for the first time early in the fourth quarter before Hardwick kicked off seven-straight Titan points with a layup at 4:33. Mahra Wieman (So. • Sparta) gave Oshkosh a 30-point edge with two made free throws with 25 seconds to go, however Molly Johannes made both of her free throws at seven seconds after being fouled.

The Titans return to the Kolf Sports Center on Wednesday (Jan. 3), facing UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. in their conference opener.
