Titans Control Regents At Oshkosh Arena

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball program outscored Rockford University (Ill.) in each of the four quarters in a 60-24 win in the first day of the BSN Winter Classic at the Oshkosh Arena on Friday (Dec. 29).

The Titans (8-2) shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field, 31.8 percent (seven-of-22) from three and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the line. They led the Regents (4-6, 0-2 NACC) in both field goal and three-point percentage along with assists (10 to two), points off turnovers (26 to four), second chance points (nine to one), points in the paint (24 to 12) and bench points (35 to 13). Rockford led with a 66.7 percentage (four-of-six) and 39 rebounds to Oshkosh's 36.

Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown) was the leading scorer with 10 points, going three-of-six from the field, two-of-three from three and two-of-two from the line. She added four rebounds (one offensive), two assists and two blocks. Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) recorded nine points and Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) added eight points off the bench. Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) pulled down double-digit rebounds for the fourth time this season with 10 (four offensive). She also blocked four shots and stole three possessions.

Mallory Hoitink (Fr. • Hartford) started a nine-point run with a free throw with 4:01 left in the first quarter to separate Oshkosh from the Regents over the rest of the quarter and the first minute and a half of the second. The teams traded points for the next three minutes before she started another run, this time for six points. Froehlke and Huml each contributed two points with two free throws and a jump shot, respectively. Froehlke made a three and Sarah Hardwick (So. • Fond du Lac) converted a layup to close out the second half with a 27-10 Titan lead.

To start the third quarter, Froehlke outscored the Regents 5-2 on her own on a jump shot and three over the first 3:19. Her three jump-started a 15-0 Oshkosh spurt that sat at 44-12 with 1:23 remaining before the Regents made a three of their own at 1:04. Allison Forney (Sr. • Batavia, Ill.) ended the quarter with a made three to make the score 47-15. Rockford hovered around 17-points down until 3:49 when Hope Barington (Fr. • Sobieski) scored the first points of an 8-0 run that ran until the final buzzer sounded.

The Titans will return to action Saturday (Dec. 30) at 7 p.m., facing the Ripon College Redhawks (6-5, 3-0 MWC) in the second day of the BSN Winter Classic.
