WITTENBERG, Ohio- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team capitalized on turnovers in a 72-39 win over Berea College (Ky.) on Tuesday (Dec. 19), scoring 19 points off the Mountaineers' 20 turnovers in the first game of the Wittenberg Holiday Classic.

The Titans (6-2) owned the higher marks in all shooting percentages, going 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the field, 36.0 percent (nine-of-25) from three and 75.0 percent (nine-of-12) from the line, while also pulling in 40 rebounds (11 offensive), recording 21 assists, 36 points in the paint and 40 off the bench.

Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) led the Titans with 11 points, shooting five-of-five from the field and making her sole three-point attempt. Mallory Hoitink (Sr. • Hartford) also scored double-digit points with 10 on four-of-seven from the field, including two-of-four from three. Sarah Hardwick (So. • Fond du Lac) paced Oshkosh's rebounders with seven (two offensive) and Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) registered eight assists.

Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) erased an early 2-0 Berea lead with a three before a 9-2 run by the Titans made the score 15-7 with 5:50 remaining in the first quarter. The Mountaineers cut the deficit to four points, but two layups from Vaile and one from Hoitink put the score at 21-11 after the opening quarter. Seven- and 8-point runs for Oshkosh in the second quarter, while holding the Mountaineers to just eight points further extended its lead to 21 points.

The Mountaineers scored four points consecutively in 23 seconds to make the score 47-26 at 5:53 in the third quarter, but that was the last time they came within 21 points for the rest of the game. The Titans built up a 29-point edge by the end of the quarter, thanks in part to two made free throws by Allison Forney (Sr. • Batavia, Ill.) and Mahra Wieman (So. • Sparta) and a three from Hoitink during a 7-2 spurt.

Wieman, who closed out the third quarter with her free throws, also opened scoring in the final quarter with a layup to make the score 61-30. After both teams went scoreless for over two minutes, Mackenzie Tlachac (Sr. • Kewaunee) registered her first points off the bench on a layup at 6:15. Berea followed Tlachac's layup with a 7-point run, cutting the deficit to 24 points by 3:25. UW-Oshkosh took complete ball control in the last three minutes of play, scoring nine points while recording six rebounds (three offensive) and two steals while holding the Mountaineers to zero points on just three shots.

The Titans will play host Wittenberg University at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 20) before coming home for games against Rockford College (Ill.) and Ripon College at the Oshkosh Arena on Dec. 29-30 during the BSN Winter Classic.
