Froehlke Leads Titans To Win Against WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo.- Bridget Froehlke led the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team to a 73-60 victory against Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) in the McWilliams Classic on Saturday night (Dec. 2) at the WashU Field House.

Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown), scored 18 points in the game, all from three-point range, which set the McWilliams Classic single-game record. Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee), Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) and Mallory Hoitink (Fr. • Hartford) scored 15, 11, and 10 points, respectively. Vaile also led the Titans with 14 rebounds, recording her second straight double-double.

The Titans shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field, 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from three and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the line, also leading with 18 points off turnovers and 28 bench points. The Bears led with a 52.3 field goal percentage (23-of-44), 26 rebounds and 32 points in the point.

The Bears scored the first points of the game and followed it up with turnovers on three consecutive possessions. Oshkosh took advantage with a Vaile jump shot and an Osterman three. After the Titans took the early lead, WashU went on an 8-0 spurt and held the lead for the rest of the quarter.

In the second quarter, WashU extended its lead to as much as ten points twice before Oshkosh scored seven straight points to cut the score to 26-23 with 2:48 left. The Titans trailed by a point when the third quarter began.

The lead changed twice early in the third quarter and the Titans took the lead at 7:52 on a three from Osterman. Oshkosh held that lead until Jordan Rich made both of her free throws with 3:40 remaining to give the Bears a 40-39 edge. Hoitink and Froehlke responded immediately with five combined points and the Titans never looked back. WashU called a timeout after Froehlke's basket, but it didn't stop the Titans' run, increasing their lead by five more points before the clock hit 1:00. Oshkosh led 49-43 headed into the final quarter.

WashU decreased the deficit to three points as late as 6:37, but the Titans scored 10-straight immediately after to build up a comfortable lead with about two-and-a-half minutes left in the game. The Bears scored four more points the rest of the way, including the final points of the game at 27 seconds on a Lexy Harris layup.

Vaile was also named to the all-tournament team.

The Titans will return to action against Berea College (Ky.) in the Wittenberg Holiday Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 19. This will be the first time the Titans and the Bears will meet.
