Comeback Falls Short For Titans In Loss To Tigers

ST. LOUIS, MO.- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team fell to DePauw University (Ind.) 67-62 in the Washington University in St. Louis McWilliams Classic on Friday (Dec. 1) at the WashU Field House.

This was the seventh meeting between the two teams, Oshkosh leads the series with four wins to three for DePauw.

Despite the loss, Oshkosh was able to lead DePauw in bench points (24-22), points in the paint (34-28), and points off turnovers (18-13).

Mallory Hoitink  (Fr. • Hartford) led the Titans with a season-high 20 points, going seven-of-11 from the field and three-of-five from beyond the arc. Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) and Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) also scored in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Vaile also pulled in 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

The Titans fell behind 14-9 early before Huml hit two shots to bring them within one at the end of the first quarter.

Oshkosh was able to keep the score close for most of the second quarter before the Tigers went on a 7-1 run to make the score 24-18. Hoitink scored the final points of the first half on a layup with 40 remaining to decrease the deficit to 31-26.

The Titans brought it to a one-score game in the third quarter before DePauw went on a 13-2 run, including a half-court buzzer beater, to bring the score to 52-39 with a quarter to play.

A 20-7 run in the fourth quarter by Oshkosh pulled them within one possession, but they were unable to complete the comeback and fell to DePauw 67-62.

The Titans return to action on Saturday (Dec. 2) against host Washington University in St. Louis at 5 p.m.
