Titans Beat Eagles, Fischer Becomes Winningest Coach In Program History

LISLE, Ill.- As the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team handled Benedictine University (Ill.) on Monday night (Nov. 27), head coach Brad Fischer passed Carol Anhalt to become the winningest coach in program history.

The Titans (4-1) shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the field and 68 percent (17-of-25) from the line and recorded 36 rebounds, 16 assists and 15 steals, all pacing the Eagles (0-5).

Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) scored 20 points in Oshkosh's third-straight win, going eight-of-12 from the field and four-of-six from the line. She also pulled down eight rebounds (two offensive). Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) and Bridget Froehlke (Jr. • Wrightstown) also reached double-digit points with 11 and 10, respectively.

Fischer now owns a 240-66 in 12 seasons at the helm of the women's basketball program, which is seventh-most in WIAC history. He passed Carol Anhalt, the first head coach of the program, who compiled a 239-124 from 1971-1989.

Benedictine scored first and largely retained the lead due to two free throws and a jump shot by Ryan Ogarek until the Titans went on a 7-2 run through the end of the first quarter.

Oshkosh pulled away quickly in the second quarter with five consecutive points, three of which were Froehlke's on a three-point shooting foul. After the Eagles scored, a 10-0 spurt from Vaile (eight points) and Huml (two points) gave Oshkosh a 24-10 lead with 4:03 to go.

UW-Oshkosh scored the final 10 points of the third quarter, leading by 21 and started the final quarter with seven. Neither team went on a run the rest of the way, but the Titans slowly extended their lead to 26 by the time the final buzzer sounded.

The Titans return to action at the two day Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2). They face DePauw University on Friday at 5 p.m. and host WashU on Saturday at 5 p.m.
