Titans Fly Past Comets In De Pere

DE PERE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team soundly defeated The University of Olivet (Mich.) by a score of 80-27 in the St. Norbert College Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night (Nov. 17).

The Titans (2-1) shot 40.6 percent from the field, including 81.3 percent from three and 35.5 percent from the line, pacing the Comets (1-2) in all three shooting categories. They also grabbed 45 rebounds (16 offensive), 17 assists and 16 steals.

Mackenzie Tlachac (Sr. • Kewaunee) paced all scorers with 13 points, going five-for-seven from the field and a perfect three-for-three from the line. Mallory Hoitink (Fr. • Hartford) also reached double-digit points with 11. She made two of her five shots from the field, her only attempt from three and all six from the line. Leading UW-Oshkosh in rebounds was Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) with eight (two solo). Kate Huml (So. • Janesville) registered five assists.

Neither team scored until Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukee) converted a jump shot and Vaile made a layup attempt. Oshkosh scored 14 consecutive points to close out the first quarter after Kinsley Hatfield made a free throw for the Comets' first point.

The Titans extended their lead to 26-4 with an early eight-point point run in the second quarter. After Olivet eclipsed double-digit points on a 7-0 run, the teams traded a few points before Oshkosh scored 10-straight, leading by 37-13 with 2:30 left in the quarter. Olivet made a layup and free throw the close out the first 20 minutes.

Over the course of the third quarter, UW-Oshkosh outscored the Comets 23-4, only allowing them to score 13 seconds into the quarter and with 35 seconds remaining.

Mayah Holzhueter (So. • Cambridge) opened scoring in the final quarter with a layup 38 seconds in. Olivet scored five points the rest of the way and Oshkosh scored 15 to close out the game.

The Titans will play Northland College in their second game of the Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 18).
