Titans Fall To Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill.-The UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team fell 69-58 to Wheaton College (Ill.) in the Wheaton Beth Baker Classic on Saturday (Nov. 11) at King Arena.  

The Titans (1-1) led Wheaton (2-0) 13-to-11 in free throws, 17-to-five in offensive rebounds, 39-to-nine in bench points and nine-to-three in steals. 

Kennedy Osterman (Sr. • Pewaukeeled the Titans with 11 points, going three-for-eight from the field, two-for-five from three, and three-for-four from the line.  

Sarah Hardwick (So. • Green Bay) and Kayce Vaile (Sr. • Greendale) both had nine rebounds. Hardwick scored seven points and Vaile scored six 

UW-Oshkosh kept the score within two scores in the first quarter until the Thunder went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-7 lead with 38 seconds remaining. Vaile made two free throws, bringing the deficit under double-digits before time expired. 

Osterman and Allison Forney (Sr. • Batavia, Ill.) opened the second quarter with five-straight points before Wheaton slowly built up a nine-point lead with 5:42 left. The Titans kept fighting and eventually trailed by just three points. An 8-2 Wheaton run made the score 33-24 after 20 minutes of play. 

The Thunder led by as much as 18 points in the third quarter, however Oshkosh went 6-0 to close it out and bring the score to 38-48. 

Oshkosh scored first in the final quarter and got within 10 points. The Titans got back within 10 twice more in the last two minutes after trailing by 15 earlier in the quarter before to Thunder free throws ended the game at 69-58. 

Osterman also made the all-tournament team.  

The Titans return to action against The University of Olivet (Mich.) for their first game of the St. Norbert Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament at Mulva Family Fitness & Sport Center in De Pere on Friday (Nov. 17).
