Titans Cruise to Win over Pointers

OSHKOSH, Wis.—An explosive first quarter saw the UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball program (18-7, 8-6 WIAC) post a 69-38 victory over the UW-Stevens Point Pointers (11-14, 3-11 WIAC). With the win, the Titans sweep the regular season series.

Ava Douglas and Kayce Vaile led all scorers with 11 points as Douglas led the Titans in rebounding (nine rebounds). Kate Huml added nine points and led the team with three assists.

The Titans shot 47.3% from the field (26-of-55), shot 47.6% from behind the 3-point line (10-of-21), and shot 87.5% from the free throw line (seven-of-eight). The Titans outrebounded the Pointers, 36-31. The Titans collected 12 assists, seven steals, and five blocks in the contest.

The Titans will compete in the WIAC conference tournament, starting with quarterfinal action on February 21, 2023. The Titans are set to host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. inside the Kolf Sports Center. 

Game Summary

Vaile and Douglas put the Titans up by five within the first minute of play as the Titans allowed only three points in the first seven minutes of the game. The Titans built their lead to 16 points on a 3-pointer from Jenna Jorgensen with 3:10 remaining. A 3-pointer from Kennedy Osterman put the Titans up by 19 points as the Titans took a 17 point lead after one.

Keeping the defensive pressure up, the Titans allowed nine points in the second quarter from the Pointers. Huml hit the Titans third 3-pointer of the evening on an assist from Avery Poole. After going quiet on the offensive front, Douglas made a layup with 4:24 remaining in the quarter. Six of the Titans final nine points of the first half came from beyond the arc, courtesy of Kennedy Osterman and Allison Forney.

Sarah Hardwick opened scoring for the Titans in the third quarter, as the Titans took a 40-16 leader. Vaile score five of her eleven points over the course of a minute as the Titans held the Pointers to two points in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Titans defense held strong, as the Pointers scored nine points in the quarter.

Cruise control was on for the Titan, taking a 52-25 lead into the fourth quarter of play. The Pointers held the Titans without a basket for nearly two-and-a-half minutes before Poole found her way to the rim. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Mallory Lindsay and Julia Magnuson saw the Titans take a 60-29 lead with just over five minutes to play. Olivia Argall had the final shot of the game, making a 3-pointer with 1:20 on the clock as the Titans swept the Pointers.
