Titans Fall to Eagles on the Road

LA CROSSE, WIS.—Kate Huml led the Titans with 14 points as the UW-Oshkosh Titans (17-7, 7-6 WIAC) women's basketball program fell to the UW-La Crosse Eagles (18-6, 7-6 WIAC), 56-42. The Titans and the Eagles split the regular season series.

Huml was six-of-twelve from the field, including a 3-pointer for the Titans and made only one free throw attempt. Sarah Hardwick added eight points and led the Titans in rebounding with seven rebounds.

The Titans shot 35.35 from the field (18-of-51), were held to two 3-pointers, and made four-of-eleven free throw attempts. The Titans were outrebounded by six (34-40) and added three steals, two assists, and two blocks in the contest. 

Game Summary

The Titans started the game off strong with a pair of opening baskets from Hardwick and Kayce Vaile. Jenna Jorgensen hit a jumper to give the Titans a 6-2 lead with 5:08 remaining in the first quarter. Huml and Hardwick would hit jump shots to extend the Titans lead to six with 1:05 remaining in the first quarter. Ava Douglas made a layup with 17 seconds remaining as the Titans took a 12-6 lead after one.

The Eagles opened the second quarter on a 14-0 run, not allowing a basket from the Titans until the 3:04 mark. A free throw by Mahra Wieman trimmed the Titans deficit to five at 15-20 with 2:24 left to play in the first half. Huml hit a 3-pointer on an assist from Douglas as Wieman hit a buzzer-beater to end the first half.

Huml trimmed the Eagles lead to two at 22-24 with 7:26 remaining in the third quarter. The Titan defense held the Eagles to a single free throw in the first four minutes of the third quarter. The Eagles' Lauryn Milne went on a solo 6-0 run as Huml ended the run with a jump shot with 3:50 remaining in the game. Avery Poole hit a 3-pointer on an assist from Huml and Huml made a layup as the Titans trailed by seven.

Trailing by ten to start the fourth quarter after a buzzer beater by the Eagles, a layup by Vaile was the first basket of the quarter. Huml and Jorgensen made a pair of baskets to trim the Eagles' lead to six. The Eagles would hold the Titans to a single free throw over the next four-and-a-half minutes. Hardwick and Mackenzie Tlachac made back-to-back baskets for the Titans to end the game and split the series with La Crosse.

The Titans conclude the regular season, hosting UW-Stevens Point on February 15. Action is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. inside the Kolf Sports Center.
