No. 22/18 Titans Cruise Past Lakeland in Season Opener

PLYMOUTH, Wis.—Three Titans landed in double-figure scoring as the No. 22/18 UW-Oshkosh Titans opened the 2022-23 campaign with a 60-43 win over the Lakeland University Muskies.

Game Recap

The Titans took control of the game early, jumping out to a 11-2 lead. The Titans defense held the Muskies to seven first quarter points, including a seven-minute scoring drought. The Titans built their lead to double digits at 17-7 on a Jenna Jorgensen layup. Continuing their defensive pressure, the Titans didn't allow a Muskies bucket until the 5:02 mark of the second quarter. Bridget Froehlke scored the final six points of the first half as the Titans took a 34-21 lead at the break.

Kayce Vaile made a trip to the free throw line to start the third quarter off, extending the Titans lead to 15 at 36-21. The Titans held the Muskies to one point in the first four minutes of the third quarter. The Titans faced a scoring drought in the third quarter, as the first layup came at the 3:04 mark from Allison Forney. Holding onto their lead, the Titans saw the Muskies bring the game within seven at 42-35.

Jorgensen had four the Titans first six points of the final quarter of play, as Forney assisted Jorgensen's 3-pointer for a 13-point lead from the Titans. The Muskies struggled against the Titans defensive pressure as the Muskies were held to eight fourth quarter points.  

Titan Leaders

Forney recorded a career-high 15 points in the contest. Forney was 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from the line.

Jorgensen was 4-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Vaile added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting, including going 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

The Titans shot 45.7% from the field (21-of-46) and went 13-of-24 from the free throw line (54.2%). The Titans were outrebounded 31-32 while recording 13 assists and 12 steals.

Previewing Eau Claire Tip-Off Tourney

The Titans continue action on the road at the Eau Claire Tip-Off Tourney. The Titans will face Bethel (Nov. 11) and Wartburg (Nov. 12).
